heads

hey guys, i have a question or two about some heads. and what you all have found to be best for what i am going to us them for. i have plans for my car to be pretty much a street racer and also i want it to be able to run at the strip also. i was wondering what type/make of heads i should use. i was thinking about the victor edelbrock jr. heads?

any replies would be helpful.

Check out this thread... I think that it is narrowing down between the TFS and AFR heads...

After studying all the pros and cons for several years now, this is what I have done. I bought TFTW from Summit along with 1.7 TF RR's, gasket set. adjustable push rod to check length (mandatory) and will need new push rods after length determination, and ARP head bolts.

I have my new heads at the machine shop for pocket porting and gasket matching to the intake (carbureted Performer). This little chore will be another $250.

After studying things for at least 2 yrs., I came to the conclusion that I could beat the excellent AFR 165's slightly by getting the TFTW's with a stage one porting job. Actually they would have been dead even without any porting.

My thought is if I ever go to a stroked 351W, The 2.02 intakes and the 170 cc intake ports will be advantageous.

In conclusion, I went with minor ported TFTW heads over the CNC'ed AFR's. All for about the same total price. My project comes to $1800 BTW.

you cant go w/ too high lift a cam or you'll have to fly cut your pistons. i personally like the cast iron world products windsor jr's or the DARTS. cast iron heads usually tend to make more power cuz they hold in the heat. if you get aluminum i'd say go w/ the AFR's they are fully cnc ported and flow pretty damn good right out of the box and they will bolt right on without any bullshit. whatever you buy watch the deck height. some headers wont fit.
