How Fast Is A F-350 Turbo Desil?

My grandpa just bought a brand new 2001 F-350 Turbo Desil, we were going around 40km (20-30mph) & I told him to "PUNCH IT" & the tires squeeled for 1-2 seconds.
this truck is big & fast for a stock F-350.
my dad has a 79 Chev with a 350 & a standard tranny, & i told my grandpa to race him, but he said no because he had to break in the engine (600km's), the ford feels faster when he floors it & wou here the whine of the turbo, but am i wrong?, once he gets back from arizona he will have around 6000km's & then he will race my dad.
anyone know what would be faster?
thanks

Don't those F-350's make 500 lbs/feet or something? I may be way off...

You should post this in the Built Ford Tough forum.

Lizard King 03-01-2001 10:49 PM

Does your mama know you're writing on the mustangworks board??? :b

The diesel is not that fast... it's freaking strong though... good for offroad, but just a bit heavy. We had a rental F-250 Turbo Diesel last time we went offroading with the gang... always at the back of the pack to make sure we didn't lock up the gang.

FivepointOH 03-01-2001 11:19 PM

yeah those diesel F250 and F350 will pull ANYTHING. We had one at the beach last year and where charging $10 to pull out people stuck in the sand, made about $200 that day. http://www.mustangworks.com/interact...oard/smile.gif I also saw an advertisement in a mag for a chip upgrade that is supposed to give 100hp?!?!? Anyone know if that's true.

What the hell kind of questions is this not to shoot flames up your tail pipe. It's a work truck not a performance car so dont espect it to be any better than 20's quarter miles..I apoligize for being rude but its just that not even 10 min ago I had a guy in a 00' corvette not accept a challenge. I would have loved to race him I probably would have gotten beaten but it was a stock automatic so thats why I wanted to race.

I have seen an add for a chip for a f 350 desiel crew cab dullie that claims 15.20 with the chip. I don't believe it though desiels are for pulling and stuff like that not for racing.

88GT5.013.02 03-02-2001 08:31 AM

Believe the 15.20 in the 1/4, cause on the website for the chip company the guy has video of it going 15.20. Stock they hit 16's I think, maybe low 16's (not for sure, but for the new Chevy Duramax they claim high 15's, and the Ford has more torque but not as much hp, dyno results proved that).

Remember torque is what gets you moving and these trucks have plenty of that. I have a '97 and these are slow compared to the new super dutys.

But as people have stated these trucks are made for towing not for speed. Check out www.Ford-diesel.com and go into the forums section. Go under super duty forums and look through the posts.

BTW diesels don't break in until about 50,000 miles. If you think it is fast now wait until your grandpa gets it broke in. Also for the first few hundred miles drive it like you stole it.

I saw one at the track, ran 16.10s I'd say that's pretty damn fast for a freaking huge *** work truck. Lizard, go to some other post to start **** . Why don't you race his F-350 okay? We'll put sand bags in the back of your car until you weigh the same as the truck and we'll see how you do. He's got more motor than you'll ever see.

Man if those suckers can hit 15's with a chip they kick some major Azz. If it went 17's I'd be impressed. You guys remember Lethal Weapon 2 when Mel Gibson has the dually chevy and rips down the beach house on stilts? Thats what trucks are for! Good clean destruction fun.

I wonder if the new 8.1 liter v8 chevy truck can hit 15's also. I would say so. My friends dad is getting one as we speak. Cost him some where in the 40 grand price range. Can't wait to see it beat a stickered out ricer. Maybe a stock mustang?? What do you think?

Depending on how your dad drives that truck who knows. It might be kinda hard to shift a big long stock from the floor. I was in longbed with a 350 and fake dual exhaust one time and the guy had no trouble squealin 2nd gear but I still don't think it was fast. The 350's that those chevy trucks get a few years ago I think would be kinda like the fords. They are all torque and very litte horsepower. Newer ones are a bit different though. Anyhow who knows.

Lizard King 03-06-2001 05:27 PM

Nothing like the smell of diesel...

Damn, I get chewed and smoked. Let me go talk to my mama.

Anyways.

that powerstroke f-350 should out run the old chevy (unless it's worked over)like it was standing still.
my blazer has a stock 350 in it with 4.10 gears and it is great to about 40mph, but after that forget it. hp in trucks was kind of a recent thing.
