Vette kill!
Ok, I just got back from a trip to the store, and I have to put this down. I had just gotten on the main road around here(hwy 29), and I got stopped at a light. I looked around and was the only one there. Then a late 80's early 90's Vette pulls on to the road, sideways I might add, and rolls up next to me. We look at each other, and as is on cue, we both grinned like a bunch of idiots.
Light went green and we launched. I am still in amazment of good I launched. Anyway, I took a quick half car lead, then, at the top of first I started to get squirrelly. Slammed into second, and he had jumped even. Into third, and still even, fourth still freakin' even. By this time I thought he was just toying with me, but I glanced over and he had the same look. It looked like he wanted to say, "WTF!?!?" He looked over at me and shrugged, so we just shut'em down. I know Vette's aren't the greatest cars in the world, but man, I am STOKED! Is this concidered a kill? Either way, it's nice to know that if I had been driving better, I might have taken him. Man that's a great thought ain't it? ------------------ The Black Mamba 11.2@124 94 Cobra- MAC cold air fender kit, Motorsport underdrive pulley's, MAC 21/2" off-road H pipe, SVO mufflers, 3.73 gears, E-303 cam, 13.417@101.335mph |
you was even so all it can be called is a good race by both

Not a true 'kill' but a nice run.
I'm surprised he stayed even since you post an et in the mid 13's, which is better than any stock late-80's/early 90's 'Vette ever ran. You raced a modified 'Vette and that was probably why he was so surprised to see you right with him. Mid 13's at the 'stoplight drags' is still pretty quick. Good job. |
Good run!!

Good run !! I have always wanted to race a vette with my 351 GT but the opportunity never seems to present itself. I want to run a newer vette like a C-5 or something like that. I might be in a little over my head with something like that but it would be a good "measuring stick"

Yeah, I guess maybe it was a modded out Vette. I have never ran one, so it caught me off guard. It sucks that he didn't pull over and raise the hood, though. I'da liked to see what he had. Probably just some gears, and a cam, but who can tell when your runnin'?
I thought they were solid 13.8-9sec cars. Show's what I know about Chevy's. |
Good Job.....
We won't see that one the LS 1 Boards!!!! Good Job!!! ------------------ 1997 Black Cobra Convertible. #2788 of 3088 Mostly Stock 1988 5.0 LX Convertible -Work Car...Few Mods. |
Cool race! Sometimes those are great for keeping us in check - and to keep us modding! http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif
By the looks of your ET, I would say he was probably slightly modded - mabe an air induction system, gears, TB - something like that. Anyways, sounds like it was a good race - Nice job. http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/wink.gif E ------------------ 1991 5.0 LX Coupe - 38,000 miles 13.17 @ 106.14 mph w/ 2.138 60' |

I know......I know!! I may have been thinking big by wanting to race a Z06 with a 351 mustang but it still would be fun.
I would need to shave about a full second off my quarter mile time which I estimate is about 13.5 or so. The Z06 has 375 HP which we all know is well in reach of a 351 mustang or 4.6 for that matter. Corvettes ARE NOT UNBEATABLE!! Imagine what we 'stangers could build for the price tag of a Z06 of $65,000!!! ------------------ '82 GT 351W,BBK shorties, Comp Cam,edelbrock intake 625 cfm carter carb. c-4 tranny w/ pro stick shifter. 4 core radiator Mallory distributor. 3:27 ......................... |
Hey, I have seen two of those around here. One was driving down the road, and the other I saw yesterday. It was for sale at this local "Specialty" car dealer. I would have liked to kick that thing around for a few hours. Anywho, I think I'm on the verge of pulling the heads and reworking them. (I need new valve seals anyway.) That should put me in the range of 300rw. Then I'll be ready for a try at the Z06!! Heh heh!
