88 GT vert vs. Turbo 4 banger probe "tonight"

Tonight is test and tune night at the track this guy at work has a neighbor with a 4 cylinder probe that is turbo charged. He claims that it is fast as hell but yet he has never ran it at the track he told his neighbor how I am in to racing and the guy says well I bet I could wax his @ss.

So guess what tonight he is supposed to meet me at the track best two out of three wins. I had never heard of a turbocharged probe. He says that it came like this from the factory. http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/rolleyes.gif dont know if he is full of sh!t or what.

I have never seen this guy or his car this all happened through his guy at work talking trash in my behalf.

From what I undertand this car is an early 90's or late 80's model. and does not have nos I had my friend check it out http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/wink.gif.

I am thinking that at best this probe wil only run a high 14 so it should be fun.BTW 20 bucks is on the line.

Some gens of the GT probe came with a turbo from the factory, i think its the later ones that have a v6 from the factory. Not sure what they run, you could check there ^^^^, but if the 15.2 in your sig is correct (is that at sea level?) then you might have a real fight on your hands.

There is an altitude meter here t the track Odessa is actually about 3000ft above sea level. But the air here is so hot and thin that the meter shows it to be between 3500 and 6000 ft on different nights so a 15.2 here is like a mid or low 14 at sea level http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/wink.gif

If it is stock you will wast him http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif I seen a stock one it is a fast probe.... But it is about the same as a Stock mustang, with your mods you will beat him if he is stock. It could have a better turbo. It could be close a one.

In 89-92 there were turbo probes stock. If its stock, it has 145 hp and I think about 190ft/lbs of torque. They are mid to high 15's (might even be 16's)in the main mags. I've driven one, it was quick and felt like it had a lot more than 145hp but it was difficult to drive (even after a week of driving it) and the shifter was really tricky . I think you'll smoke him.

Upon further research, your looking at 15.8 best, stock, at sea level. You will kill him.

That Probe has the Mazda turbo engine. There are a handful of aftermarket parts for those cars that will get them in the 13's. Can't say i've ever seen one do it though.

i've driven several of those turbo probes.(stock) if he's stock you'll spank him. they pull good 1st and 2nd gear but after that it's done. plus if he's a first timer at the track you'll spank him real bad. racing on the street and at the track is 2 different worlds.jmo. when you spank him tell him we all said he "should've got a V8" http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/wink.gif
