Post Raced a 1000HP Mustang!

I went out to Pittsburg/Bay Point today to meet up with a buddy thats gunna give me a new fuel pump. I was letting him drive the car (which I NEVER do) and we spot his buddy who owns a 83GT thsts been converted to look like a 87-93 GT. It was white, and hoodless. Its powerplant is a Vortech Blown 351, 20psi of boost, and a 175hp shot of n2o. I could not believe he wa sonly running 50lb injectors. Anyways we line up around 25mph, but we started about 1 car back and my buddy nails my car in 1st just before the 1000hp Stang does. We get a jump on him and get to his door, but after he stops spinning he takes off, smoking the tires up to 90mph!!!! We went all the way to 4th and he was about 5-6 car lengths ahead.

Man my ears RANG for minutes afterward. We both pulled over, and I quickly learned that the other Stang died. It would not start. I checked for spark... none. So he took out his MSD boxes cause they always fail (damn MSD) but still nuttin. So after an hour of troubleshooting we find that he blew a distributor gear.

Oh yeah when I raced him he was not even flooring it, so he could get traction.... and he was not running n20. Man that car is NUTS! So far he can run a 10.2 @138mph. Thats with the stock EEC and no chip tuning. The car looks like sh!t but is faster than hell. Should have had my digital camera.

Oh yeah when he would crank over his motor, you could see smoke rising out of his breather on his oil neck. I mean smoke was POURING out. Thats all caused by BLOW-BY.

I know what he must be feeling, I drove mine a time or two with 675hp before I had to send it back off. It so crazy what that much power feels like. There is no traction whatsoever and 7000 rpm flashes are nothing. It fun but a little scary at the same time.

10.2@138 = 1000hp? Not hardly. It may have the potential to make 1000hp, but at that kind of hp he should be trapping 160ish.

Was that just a shakedown run, or was he on street tires or something? Anyway you look at it, he's still fast as hell burning you like that.

A Stang with good traction could run that with around 600hp, depending on weight.

He was on cheapy tires and a brand name I have never heard of. If I had those tires I probably could not get traction in 3rd gear!

Unit you are also forgetting that this car has NEVER been tuned... still running the stock computer. PLus he is running 50# injectors... way to small for the amount of horsepower. Including a MSD-6AL and BTM. I would not trust those on my blown 351 engine.

So in other words, it was kinda just a shakedown run.

Makes a little sense then.

Thumbs up

That's probably a once-or-twice in a lifetime street race. It's not everyday that you encounter a car like that on the street. With 138mph traps, he is probably at 650-700hp.

I love reading stories like this! Awesome!

Cool

That must've been sweet. Yeah, definately a street racing moment to remember. Once he started pulling, you should've gotten behind him and rode the wave. He would've pulled you along w/ him, you would've run somewhere in the 11's
