Talking raced a ls6 70 chevelle

I finnaly got a race last night, first one in about a year. We have kid now, never seem to be able get out and cruise... anyway......

I'm in my '93, see a "old" car in the distence really leave the light hard. I can't make out what it is, but it really didn't matter. I caught up to him about 3 lights later after dodging some traffic. A really nice Chevelle, looks really stock, but with 454 badges on the colw hood. He's defently into it. Light turns, I get a really good launch, hardly any wheel spin, and I'm ahead! I bang 2nd, and then he must of relized that there are 4 barrels on that carb, and he left me bad. I catch him at the next lights, he tells me its a LS6, 450HP car. Pretty cool, Wave goodby, and we head our different ways.

I really don't mind losing, It just makes me want to build a faster car. If I won all the time in a 14 sec car, It would be pretty sad.

Yup the LS6 was rated at 450 hp and 500+ torque. However, what was rated and what it really had is a different story.

BTW it should have had the 454 badges on the fender under SS

I think he had them there too. My chevy buddy say that they rated that LS6 at something like 4500rmp, long way from peak hp at 6000rmp, just a rumor, but a good one. Beat me up petty bad. I liked it.

You guys should hear my cousins 70 Monte Carlo. He's got a 468 (454 + ???) 10.25:1 pistons, rectangular port heads with 2.25/1.88 valves I think they are, solid cam almost the exact same specs as mine (see bottom, only mines hydraulic roller), victor jr. and a 850 holley. Car weighs 3950 with him and ran a best of 11.71 @ 113 on DOT's. You should hear it, it sounds awesome. Towards the beginning of the season he broke 3 teeth off the ring gear and they shot out the back cover. Its a 12 bolt too. Anyway, my Uncle used to have an SS Chevelle LS4 (I think) with the 396, 4 speed. Coupe, you are right, that SS in D&C rules along with the whole movie. That one is a modded LS5. Any of you guys/gals ever see 2 Lane Blacktop?

I've got Two Lane Blacktop on DVD. Can't remember where I bought it, but it was at one of the local mainstream movie and CD places around here.

The 1970 454 Cowl Induction Chevelle was bad to the bone. If memory serves 4.11 posi gears and BIAS PLY 14" Firestone tires in factory form. Even with good 15" street tires of today in't gonna handle 500 ft/lbs of torque from that monster for long.

I believe Hot Rod (or similar mag) did a shoot-out with completely factory late 60's - early 70's muscle cars. I think it did something like mid 14's around 95 MPH. This was due to lack of traction for the first 1/3 of the track.

Default Bias ply tires

Most of the 60's early 70's muscle cars ran bias ply tires stock. Good year Polyglass, etc., were common. Some factory cars ran 13.50's on some tests. These cars were tweaked from the factory and some even ran slicks (lock rear ends were quesionable). Mid 13's to low 14's were usual from these cars (mostly bias ply rubber).
