Talking Raced an LT-1

Okay, for you heavily, even lightly modded folks out there I know this isn't much. I raced my brother 0 - 120 mph before I shut down (light drizzle). We ran even mostly. He has a '94 9C1 (Chevy Caprice - cop car, blah, blah...). His cars really fast and has several mods of his own. He has the 3.08 rear, B & M shift kit and floor shifter, ram air, K & N, 2 1/2 in. piping with 2 cats, first base and home plate delete and throttle body bypass. Really, I was scared to race him cuz I thought I would lose. Off the start I jumped on him about 1 1/2 cars 0-50 but then ran even to 120 (me still being ahead) I had really bad traction and we both had about 360 lbs. of extra passengers not including ourselves (guess his extra torque helped out). It was a good race. Also, I need to rebuild my tranny, second gear grinds like crazy if I don't take it slow, about a full second to engage w/o grinding. I hate when people say these are sleeper cars because they're really not. They're cop cars for a reason!!! They're sleepers to only those who need to catch up and know the competition.
Anyone else run with 1994-1996 LT-1 Caprice/Impala/9C1's? How'd you guys fare??

I've run two caprice cop cars at the track, one of them stayed with me a little, when i had bald tires, and second one i blew his doors off,

and hey racing in "light drizzle" with extra "360lbs in passengers" a little dangerous dont you think? 0-120 lol

But i like my old police package better

I usually hand the LT-1 powered F-bodies losses, I can only imagine a Caprice would be breakfast.

I didn't even know the Caprice came with the LT-1, I know the Impala SS did, but that would also be breakfast for me in stock form.

Actually my car in showroom form should whoop up on either of those cars.

All the same, kills are kills!

Yeah the caprices came with the LT-1's, same exact as the Imapala, except in the 9C1 Caprices (cop cars) they have heavy duty parts while the police package caprices (not 9C1, but still LT-1) is limited to 108 mph and has taller gears.

About the race, yeah I had to shut down at 120 cause of a light drizzle and a bend in the freeway (we raced from the on-ramp). I kept it at 120 while my brother did a ricer fly-by (j/k) at 124 to 127. He probably would have beat me to 135 anyways though cause those LT-1's just keep pulling.

Dude, after careful consideration, I've decided you need to learn how to drive.

With the mods you have in your sig you should be in the real low 14's. Sounds like you are running in the 15 somewhere range. You may think those jellybeans are quick, but back here in the real world, they are not. I can't imaging one pulling anything near the 14's with that body and an auto.

Get some practice revving beyond 3000rpm, until you do, quit racing stuff, you're giving us a bad name.

That's it.

Question

All I'm seeing is a 94 Caprice cop car vs a 93 Mustang GT. Their mods equal out. With 360 lbs of extra passengers in both cars the Caprice would weigh in at about 4500 lbs and the stang now at 3600 lbs is having really bad traction issues, but it still manages to jump a car and a half out of the hole, then holds dead even. If you've got traction out of the hole that good, you've got traction down the road.

Ummmm hmmmm. The only things that pop in my head is BS, or BD (bad driving). The Mustang should have had the Caprice by a least a full second in the quarter.

Okay, did you not read my post. I said it takes me about a FULL second to get it in second gear. If I would be running low 14's with the tranny okay then im probably running like a low 15 with my messed up tranny. Those Caprices run mid to low 15's stock and with what he has probably runs a high 14 or low 15's. Also, I GOT THE JUMP, but putting it into second killed me. I got the jump out of the hole but it kinda neutilized with my shifting to second. I held on to a 1 1/2 car lead throughout, even at 120. Also, the race was much longer than a quarter mile and the problem with his car is getting out of the hole, after that he's okay.

Hey Unit 5302 maybe you need to get the facts straight and atleast learn to read before saying anything that makes you look any dumber. Practice revving over 3000?? Dumbest **** I've heard yet.

Question

You say you jumped him by a car and a half, then you were dead even plus that car and a half throughout the rest of the race. Does his car have trouble when you need to shift too? Otherwise he would have passed you during your shift escapade, or shortly thereafter with the momentum gained while you played with 2nd gear.

Low/mid 15's? With the extra weight he'd be lucky to get into the 15's while experiancing a bad launch.

Oh btw, try not to take my flaming personally, I'm in a shitty mood!

I gotta go with Unit here. If he didnt pass you in that delay between gears whats up? Maybe your car just needs a good tune up, maybe your not at the right shift points or driving it very agressively. Don't feel like you've had a cold reception here at this board, but driving 124mph on lightly wet roads? C'mon! I would never race on lightly damp roads. My car could spin the tires on wet roads in 4th gear. Just too dangerous.

Cool

I have saw Caprices run mid 14's with bolt ons, and some Impalla's dip into the 13's with major bolt on's (gears & converter) so they are not that slow! stock however would probably be in the low to mid 15's!

Thumbs up

We've got a couple roaming around here in the 11s but they are far from stock. Here is my friend Georges site:

Okay, I got a one car jump off the line, then putting it into second I was only ahead by a quarter or half a car (his front end at my side windows). In second I pulled one car length on him and then no more gaining.

And also, the road wasnt wet or damp or even slighlty damp. When I reached like 110, there was a very light drizzle on my windshield almost like a very thin fog and I knew it should be over with. I would never race when its raining.
