Post Ram air runin

I was on my way to a appointment when I ran across a black 99-00 ram air 6spd and we got a light! we did not run right from the light we kinda rolled out then I hopped it a little and he nails it (very little spin) I nail and smoke the sh*t out my new Pilots (ugh I need drag radials again), he pulls about a car before I stop his momentem than about 1/2 way throught 4th I began to pull and we promptly shut down. I guess this goes down as a loss hu?

If you never got by him I guess it a loss, but you said you were catching him. Not too shabby in my book.

Just get a good dyno tune and a custom chip with DR's and you wont have any problems at all. If you can pull an ls1 on the top end you are doing fine.

Just curious, you said you started to pull on him but you say your car runs 103.9!in the 1/4 most M6 LS1's run 108-110 mph! so how did you pull on him? I'm not trying to rag on you it's just that you said your car runs 13.5@ 103.9, my A4 LS1 with 273's run's 13.1@ 106.5 mph on street tires spinning and its stock!

Most stock LS1's won't run 13.1 LS1Jay. The ones I've seen at HRP usually run 13.5-13.7 @ about 103-104. Don't get me wrong, they're really quick for stock Detroit iorn, but I've never seen a stock LS1 run 13.1. I don't doubt that your's does, just that most don't. Again, not questioning your car's performance. Just noting my limited observations.

Rev, I have seen some LS1's that ran a bit slower than the average, M6 car's have a higher trap speed than an A4, maybe sedanman's car is a bit stronger than he say's, when you take in weather factors and whether or not he is at sealevel and so forth! I live in Fl, the track I ran at was at sea level, it was around 60 degrees and the humidity was at 69% which is decent but not ideal by any means, I have seen LS1's stock running anywhere from 13.60 @ 103 being a slow one, the fastest bone stock LS1 I ever saw as far a a F-Body goes was a 2000 Z-28 M6 on street tires, bone stock it ran 12.81 @ 110.88 it was perfect weather and he hooked realy good, I have seen stock LS1 vettes run 12.50 @ 112 MPH and a LS6 run 11.90 @ 117 MPH, but these are not the average, just as my friend had a 90 mustang that ran 13.1 with bolt ons, he had a strong car! he even got a 12.90 with an edelbrock intake! with heads, cam, and juice he ran 11.1 @ 116!

Well i wouldn't really say that you got killed...more like smoked! J/K

Seriuosly good run man! you must be runnin real strong to pul on him in 4th gear! those LS1s are killer in the top gears. Sounds like you spining pretty bad with those pilots. we might have to hook 'em up before u get a set of DRs

I'll be back at school next week (early). its been 5 weeks since i've driven the stang

BTW i have seen a stock (lid, shifter) LS1 Z28 run 13.38 @ 109 when the conditions were so foggy u couldn't even see the end of the track!

I hope that my car will run a higher mph with colder air and the few mods I have added since my last run, Yes ezridn you might give me a pretty good run from a stop now cause these new tires spin like it is raining out! I am getting ready to order my 255 Dr's for when the snow goes away, I am also ordering a a/c delete kit this week, as well as a cold air induction kit.

I agree with rev, and im at the track very often, i just dont see 110 trap's on a stock ls1, maybe 104, and a little better with an SS.

Ls1jay, you thinkin you guys are the fastest factory cars on earth....Yeah right!

I would concur.

103ish for a bone-stocker,
106-108 for a lightly modded LS1.

With my stock motor I trapped 103 and inched by a couple of LS1's on the freeway. You just never know!

90dscoupe I never said "we" were there the fastest stock cars on earth, I don't know who is driving those LS1's that are so slow, maybe they need to learn how to drive, like when my buddy's new cobra ran 14.3 in the quarter and he sold it because he thought it was slow, I however know that the problem was not the car, but him, he could not drive! 2 weeks ago at the track I saw a LS1 Camaro run 12.2 @ 112mph on street tires, his only mods were: 3000 stall converter,373 gears, headers, cut out, & a lid, thats it! he pulled a 1.6 60ft on street tires, not drag radials, his 1/8 mile was a 7.800 @ 89mph!!!! heck my car is a heavy Trans Am fully loaded, with 273 gears and it runs 13.1 @ 106.5!!!! on street tires! I'm not trying to say that stangs are slow! I just making a point! I know there potential!

LS1Jay,

Your 13.1 on a stock LS1 (A4 2.73 no less) is extremely hard to believe. In fact I would wager that either you don't run 13.1 or you are not stock. Remember stock means off the showroom floor....no aftermarket lid no k&n ...nothing....

I have what's on my sig and got 13.5 on RS-As spinning only a little bit in first (and I have 3.42s) so lighten up the bs a bit...I mean these guys here aren't LS1 experts but they can tell a fishy tale when they see one.

As for the kill story...If you really run 13.5 then either that guy you ran was absolutely completely stock or he just leveld off at the end cause a stock LS1 will run about 13.8 but you would hardly notice that you are pulling on him if you ran 13.5 (13.0 more than definitely...but 13.5...hard)

Actually I was at the track when LS1JAY ran his car. It was a great day at the track. As far as I know it was stock. I have the car that went 12.2s on stock RSA tires. The mods are:

Whisper lid
Amsoild filter
!Throttle body
!MAF
Mac headers with offroad Y-pipe
Cutout
MidWest 3200 converter.

My car started out as the slowest one any of us had seen at the track. I ran the car once with it bonestock at the track. My best for the day was 13.80 @ 100.80. The car ran extremely rich from the factory. It seems my car was one of the first 99s built and we think it may have the larger 98 injectors in it. As I leaned the car out it picked up faster than other cars with similar mods. Also I think fordmanck was at the track also.

??? I'm sorry, but mee too...there is no way in my books that I see a "bone stock" SS running 110 mph. That would mean that they would have to be pushin about 371 hp at the crank, and GM didn't overrate them that much. They might run 110 with a full exhaust, cam, TB, and all of the minor bolt on's. SS's are rated at 320 bhp, they dyno around 290-300 stock, so that would mean that your bud's car is the "one of a kind" SS that dynoed around 315-320 rwhp stock
. Come on, that is almost the ZO6's numbers.

And as far as the C5's running 112 traps...that is bogus in my books too. In the first place, I have NEVER seen a C5 dyno more than a LS1 Fbody, usually about the same, and the SS's and WS-6's are usually 5-10 hp more. C5's aren't that fast, I beat a 99 Hardtop that had 3.73's exhaust, filters, and I had the disadvantage of a 200 lb passenger. At that time I ran 13.20-13.30's.
Not meaning ti light a flame here, but before you come here praising LS-1's, be ready, because this is the mustang's house...

BTW, 12.90's at sea level for a edelbrock headded, Intaked, and cammes 5.0 is slow if LS-1's are really running 110-112 traps

Actually a friend of mine Mark was able to hit 116mph in his bolt on 2000 SS. He has every bolt on but a stock heads, cam, intake, clutch tranny etc. He ran consistant 115mph and a best of 12.11 @ 115mph. He has the fastest bolt on LS1 with a manual tranny. With basic air intake mods, exhaust and a converter I run mid 111s.

as you can see in my sig. I have added mods since the last time I had it at the track, also I ran a 98-99 SS 6spd at the track and he was only running 13.9-14.1@101 with little spinning off the line, so maybe some are just stronger than ever, Heck look at GM TPI I have seen stock one run anywhere from 14.6-15.8's! So maybe LS1 cars are the same, I have never seen a LS1 car run better than 13.6's but with all the claims of low 13's I could believe that with a good driver and a strong LS1 car that low 13's are possible.

I am thinking of going with the mac, but I am not sure EZridn as you can note that I am looking at cold air induction so look for a killer NA motor in my future either 331 or 347 and maybe some stage 2 Trick flows.
