Saleen Vs. Z06???

Hey guys I have a 99 saleen s281 and it does have the supercharger. I am suppose to get 365hp but I have never put it on the dyno.... And I know of a Z06 running around in my town I would love to race him.......... But I am not sure what kind of hp the Z06 has..... Do you think I can take him or not!!!???!!!

See Ya,
Karen:cool:

StoplightWarrior 09-08-2002 12:55 PM

If you're car is stock w/ only saleen options...you will get absolutely demolished by a properly driven z06. They have 405 hp and are way lighter. They are scary beasts.

Now throw some longtube headers, an offroad x pipe, a smaller pulley, and some drag radials on that saleen, and then remove as much weight as possible...you could beat that z06...but even then, it would still be close.

Shelby428cj 09-08-2002 04:34 PM

He is soooooo gonna kick my a** the mods I have done is mac headers and offroad H pipe and 2 2chamber Flowmasters.... And the weight is where I am screwed I use my car for stereo competitions and I have about 300lbs in my trunk.... Hmmm I am getting ready to get 4:10s put in but I think I am still toast O well It will be a fun race and I would rather lose to a vette then a civic!!! Thanks for the input!!!

See Ya,
Karen

New Car On The Block

Hey I am getting a 98 mustang gt with a saleen body and lots of extras. I have 17x8 and 17x10 aluminum 5* rims. Its got like 10 thousand put into the car itself. It's a 4.6 and all that junk and it easily hits 150 mph. Its an automatic with a shift kit. 373 or something. I dunno too much. But I will be hanging around here alot more. Most of the parts on it are saleen parts ordered straight from cali. Well later all

Shelby428cj 09-09-2002 08:52 PM

That sounds like a pretty cool 98 does it have the saleen supercharger??

See Ya,
Karen

UntouchableOne707 09-10-2002 07:14 AM

Ya he said something about having the turbocharger. I am getting my license soon and then I am gonna start making runs down the street to the turnpike where everyone races. The only car I fear right now is the 300zx. It has so much money put into it and is so fast. I guarantee that car would eat my stang rite now :( He just ordered something from Cali for my car too, it was like $1300 but I guess it makes the car alot faster, I missed most of the talk about it tho. I will let you know the specs when I get it this weekend.

1969Mach1 09-10-2002 11:39 AM

Sounds pretty sweet, but I do suggest you be careful. Maybe see if there is any driving schools around you where they teach you how to control your car and stuff. And make sure you know your car before you take it out to race on the street. You seem very uneducated about your car, or to say cars in general. Which is ok cause we're all here to learn. But if your car is infact Supercharged and has that much money done to the engine then you can be pushing some serious power. I've had to learn the hard way about driving my car, but I've learned from it and know no my car really well. But you can be the best drive rin the world, but unless you know what everyone else is doing you hold no chance of not getting into a accident. Take your car out, learn to drive it normally, maybe take it to a parking lot and try a few "stunts" or situations that can go bad. I know I did that with my stang and if I know it's saved my *** already. I'm not beating up on you here, just letting you know to be careful, I'm sure everyone here at Mustangworks here agrees with me and agree that we don't want to see you wind up dead or something happen to you or your car. Try to get some pictures posted, and maybe a list of mods. I'm really curious on seeing this beast. :D :D :D

I agree with 69Mach1... My 17-year old son and I are building an 88GT. Plans are to put power under the hood. He's been driving the pretty much stock stang for about 1-year now. I've taken him to parking lots in the winter with snow on the ground and taught him how to handle a car in a spin. Recently taken him to some abandon parking lots and worked with him on launching the car.

Know your car - what the capabilities are - and what the limits are. If you take the time you will have loads of fun with that hot car. If not, you could waste that $10K pretty quick - or even worse.

UntouchableOne707 09-11-2002 08:57 AM

but of course

Ya I am definetly not hopping into the driver's seat and going to try and race down some street I don't even know. I am going to drive the car around for a while and get used to it's handling and speed first. I wont be driving it too much in the winter tho. Depends how bad the roads will be. I am gettin my permit soon so I will be driving it around just seeing how it handles. I dont't expect to be racing until I have been familiarising myself with the car for atleast a month. And after I get the 351 turbocharger instead of the 281 I got now, I am gonna have to go through familiarising myself with the car again. Thanks and if there's any other helpful advice, I am open to it. Later all

Shelby- Get your self a smaller pulley for more boost, and some slicks. Launch like crazy with those 4.10s, and I think you can take a z06 on street tires no problem.

UntouchableOne707:
You are going to kill yourself with that car. I personally am glad I'm on the other side of the country from you and that thing. Anything Saleen is going to come from California, that's where the factory is, actually right up the street from me.

You bought this car before you've ever driven? Kind of worries me. Get your hands on a compact pickup truck for the winter (5 speed) and learn to drive in that. Start with some sandbags in the bed to keep the back end planted and as you get better take them out. By the time the road thaw out, if you can drive fast without anything in the bed and control the slides, then consider firing up the Mustang.

Trust me. It's much better than watching your balled up car get towed away.

The Deuce 09-12-2002 02:39 AM

Karen,
Take all that stereo crap out of the trunk and hand me the keys. I'll show you how to beat a z06 :D

UntouchableOne707 09-12-2002 08:24 AM

Well Not first

I been driving around a ford taurus 99 se for about a month. It's an automatic and I am used to that. I also practiced on a a 97 cavalier. I dont like that too much. I am a good driver but I could be better. Ya, don't worry I am not going to be racing too much. I might just try and make a dragster and bring it down to jersey with some friends. I am being taught alot about cars because alot of the people around here all have gasoline in their blood. Ya... my friend keeps saying something about a new 250 shot of nos? *evil grin* He said it just came out for the new mustangs and junk. My car is gonna be pretty heavy when Im done tho. I am going to buy a couple amps and some 12's. Probaly some kenwood, (I kno u all spend alot of money on amps and get the best). Kenwood will be fine for me for right now. Well I gotta go. Gotta get back to work. Teacher is glaring at me cause he caught me on this in skool. Later all

Mustang_289 09-12-2002 09:59 AM

UntouchableOne707 - there's a huge difference between a front-wheel drive Taurus and a hopped up rear wheel drive stang! Let me share something with you that I always said when I was your age and was driving my hopped up 66 fastback. "High performance cars don't kill - low performance drivers do". My opinion - one month of driving doesn't qualify you to run a car hard. I feel confident you can be a high performance driver - but you have to admit to yourself that you're currently a low performance drive. This is not a slam here - take the advice being posted on this web site. It's very good info and will help you become a high-performance drive.

Take it from someone who has a son your age who's driving a 5.0 stang. Start slow - with a pretty much stock 5.0 or another rear wheel drive vehicle. Learn how to master your car in a skid and fishtail - because you will end up in one! You not only "know how to do it" but you need to have the experience where you're brain is on auto pilot when your a** end comes around on you. Build up the power, know it and respect it..

UntouchableOne707 09-12-2002 10:21 AM

Ya thanks for the advice. I am going to be taking it to a parking lot and messing around with it so I can get used to it. I know I am a low performance driver. I already know what to do, it's the experience part I just need to learn. I know what you guys mean, I know alot of people that have been in car crashes. I also know alot of people that are successful racers and they all seem to tell me the same thing. Know your car can know your limits. I will be tmessing around with it so I know what to do in any of those situations. Thanks. Later

The Deuce 09-16-2002 07:13 PM

I watched a blown Cobra run a z06 at the track Saturday. Now, the vette was on slicks, and the Cobra on street tires. But I know the snake was modded a little, and I don't recall the z06.

Both cars are darn fast, but the Cobra had traction issues. So he lost to the vette, but on even tires, I'm not sure what the result would have been.

Seems like it really would come down to driver ability.

Skyman 09-16-2002 08:23 PM

If the cobra was on slicks it definatly would have won 112 vs 115mph. the cobra had the advantage.

The Deuce 09-17-2002 12:43 AM

Well, if somebody would have gotten their car running, maybe the cobra would have had slicks.

Just messing with ya man, you ever get it sorted out?
