shift points
Hi, I've ran my stock 87 GT at a local 1/8 drag strip a couple times and have gotten constintly 9.8'6, 70 mph. I'm shifting at around 5500 RPM. Any suggestions on a different shift point like 5000 RPM? I feel I should be getting better times. I also have 225/50/15's on the car. Thanks..Steve.

That's too high IMO. Stock engines run out of steam around 5000 rpm, but you could try playing with it up to 5200-5300 rpm even and see what the times show.

Do you have a shift light? Otherwise, you are wasting your time.

Shift light
Hi, no I don't have a shift light. What do you mean by wasting my time? Thanks.

Without a shift light, your shifts and 1/8 mi. times are going to turn out inconsistantly. You might run a 9.8 one run, and a 9.4 the next. You really need a shift light if you plan on going to the track. Plus, the stock Tach is not the most accurate thing in the world. The MSd light is about $70, is three wires to hook up, and a 5 RPM pack is about $25. I would shift at around 5200-5400.

Shift light
OK thanks for the info. I'll check into it. Last summer I ran in the low tens but sinse have installed underdrive pulleys and relocated my K&N filter for colder air. and switched tires from 60's to 50's. Dropped a second off. Thanks...Steve.

What's your 60 foot?

my fastest 1/8th was a 9.86 with my heavy ass vert, auto trany and intake with flows, spun part of the way on some cheep tires.

I dissagree, I run consistant 13.6's with all stock gagues. The stock tach really isn't all that inacurate untill you really start winding it up. -Josh, aka the tireburner |
I like having a shift light. You don't have to worry about looking at the tach all the time. Just keep your eyes on the track(where they belong) and when the light flashes grab the next gear. I raced for a while with out a shift light and I think it's a lot easier to be consistant with it. Just my $.02

For a $100 part, you just cant beat it. Hell, I run one in my Tauraus:p |
Oh, now they're handy. I've got on in my LX, but for my daily driver I just don't have the need for one.
$100 is a LOT of money, for that much I'd just buy the notch a set of long tubes and get it into the 11's:D |
