Shouldn't it run faster?

Around what should my ET be? I think it definitely should be faster. I had my best run last night @ the strip. I'm fairly new at this. What RPM should I rev at? What RPM should I shift at?

ET 14.1211 @ 100.9199 mph

60 ft 2.2562

Reaction Time .9747

94 GT
5spd
17" cobra r's (regular Michellin radials) *probably a big part*
GT 40 intake
aluminum heads
BBK cold air
65mm Throttle body
BBK long tubes
new 2chamber Flows
9mm wires
Hurst Shifter
Centerforce dual friction

well no ur car isnt running bad when u think bout it basically ur car is a potential 13 second car b/c if u had a pro driver driving just like u do when ford does the tests themselves u would be running in the 13's which is faster then what a stock 94 gt would run... thats just my opinion i could be wrong

yeah.. you could be right. Any idea around how much horsepower i'm packing? I know I'm pretty close, but I just wanna see that 13 sec on the board. What else can I do that's not major to get to the 13's?

Get a good tire on there and 13's will be easy. 100 mph is enough power for mid 13's. your 60' is only 2.2, with a good tire you should be able to get it to about 1.8-1.9 and that'll get you into the 13's.

try leaving around 2500-3000 and shift at 5500 and work from there to find what is best for your combo.

gears and tires

i'd say 1st get some nice tires taht will give you traction and if you have the money go with some gear like 3.73's that would definatly lower your 60' times. you also might want to work on your reaction time cuz on the street that .9xx reaction time will hurt you. but at the strip it doesnt reflect on your 1/4 mile times. good luck with getting intothe 13's tho.

Skyman 03-03-2002 11:20 PM

Do you have the GT40Y heads or the GT40X Heads?

What state of tune is your car in? The computer you have sucks, 94/95 computers pull a lot of timing.

Where is your timing at? Where are you shifting at?

No offence, but can you drive well?

100mph for a heads/cam/intake car isnt very good.

Sure you can get into the 13's w/ 100mph, but its missing about 40-50hp.

Skyler,

The car came with the heads. What are the differences, and how can I tell which they are?

I just got new ford motorsport 9mm wires. I got Autolite plugs today. I heard the 94/95 computer sucks. I was told a new one would be about $1200. Would a superchip solve that problem?

I believe my timing is set at the factory setting. What should it be set at?

I'm shifting between 5000-5500 rpm. Where should I be shifting?

I don't have a cam to my knowledge.

No offence taken. I'm fairly new at drag racing, so I don't have driving the strip down to a science yet. I really appreciate all the advice and tips you guys are giving. t hanks

approx how much HP do I have?

95mustanggt 03-05-2002 09:59 AM

If you are new to the drag racing scene then I would give it a bit before worrying too much about power. I mean not knowing how to drive can really change your times.

Did you say you spun alot?

Wouldn't the stock cam with 1.6 RR's really hurt his combo? You would only have what .444 lift?

Skyman 03-05-2002 08:33 PM

Well I would go with some 1.7 rockers at the least or a E-303 CAM.

An aftermarket tach would be a good investment too as the stock tach is pretty unaccurate.

Try shifting at 5700 on the stock tach.

Set your timing to 14degrees. You should be able to get a custom burn chip from JMS.

www.jmschips.com I believe they are around 300bux. Stay away from superchips etc.

95mustanggt, I more than someone with drag radials because I am using regular street tires. I got some rims like yours for 200 bucks for all four if you know someone looking to buy.

Skyman, I'll look into that E303 and the 1.7 rockers. What's wrong with superchips? Will my gas mileage go way down if I set the timing to 14 degrees? The JMS Chip also sounds good. thanks for the info.

NYC1, get some slicks! You'll knock about 5 tenths off at the strip with good driving.

fastang 03-06-2002 02:16 AM

Dont get upset just yet. Did the car come with gears when you bought it? If not definitely get the gears and tires. And while your at it make sure your trac loc is still working well. Are you leaving two stripes down the road when you burn out or just one?

My trac loc is wasted and I ran close to what you ran as well. I hit a 14.00 @ 102.4 spinning all the way down the track on a 2.2 60ft ...yet from a slow 1st gear roll I've beaten a new LS1 vette, a few LS1 Camaro's, and sucked up an NSX like a hoover . I've tuned it up a bit since I last went to the track but Im not going back untill EVERYTHING is right with my car.

Your 60ft is decent with radials and you might want to learn to powershift if you dont know already. Take the car to a shop with a dyno that can burn you a custom chip. If you bought the car modded already, contact the owner and ask them whether or not they already had one burnt and what gears the car has. Good Luck.

NYC1 03-06-2002 10:31 PM

I know.. slicks is the answer. :D

I'll check to see if i leave 1 or 2 skids.

Unfortunately I don't know if it has a cam or gears. I bought it from a dealership. It already had the heads and the intake.

NYC1 03-08-2002 10:15 PM

BEEEEEEYOWWWW!!!!!

I finally did it!!!!!!!!!!!!! All done still with Factory gears and regular street tires. I cut 4/10ths from my best time.

Capital Raceway - Crofton, MD

Check this:

ET 1/4 Mile 13.6858

RT .5994

Speed 1/4 Mi. 103.2250

60 ft. 2.0315

I know that's still a "slow" time to some of you guys times, but I'm just cheezin! :D

Now I need to start lookin 4 sum drag radials or slicks.

Thanks guys for all the advice.

mean81GT 03-09-2002 11:59 AM

Congrat's dude, that's a good run!. Keep practicing, you might still have a little more left in her. I am guessing that you could get low 13's with your combo, once you do something with the timing (chip) and the cam. Rockers are easier to install, but they are a little more expensive than the cam. expect about 350 or so for the rockers, and i just paid 270 for my cam through summit. keep hitting the track, you'll get it!

fastang 03-09-2002 12:47 PM

Good Job, Crackin a 2.0 60ft on regular radials is not easy. I only did it once and that was with a drag radial pushin my peg leg. I'd bet that your car already has gears in it. At least 355's. Gears are one of the first things most people do, and I dont no anyone that put heads and an intake on their car but left the stock gears. Same with the cam, are you SURE the cam is stock. Can you hear it lope at all? Most people dont tear the entire top end off of thier car to replace the heads and leave the stock cam.

Good luck and get some slicks, with a 1.6 60ft you should slap a 12!

NYC1 03-10-2002 07:18 PM

Thanks guys,

I'd like to see if I have anything left in her. I only did one run Friday. I was so happy, I was cheezin and left the track.

I know I got lucky on that 60ft. I can't remember if I was reving at 2000 or 2500 before the run.

How can I tell if it has a cam and gears without opening things up? I'd hate to try to get them, and they're already in there. Now that would be a good laugh for someone else! hahaha! :D

Does anyone know how to get to the horsepower calculator is on this site?

My feeling is if your hitting around 101 in the 1/4 mile in a '94 GT (5 speed?), then you're producing about 300-310 at the flywheel. Anyone else with guesstimates?

Rev

SprchrgdPony 03-10-2002 10:05 PM

the Calculator on this site shows that at 3500lbs and traping 101mph you should be making around 281hp. So figure, about 300hp in actuality.
