Wink Hot Rod Race

Have you heard the story of the hot rod race where the fords and lincolns were settin' the pace? that story is true im here to say, that i was drivin' that model A. it's got a Lincoln motor, and it's really souped up that Model A bitin' makes ya look like a pup, it's got 8 cylinders, and uses 'em all, got overdrive, just won't stall. with a four-barrel carb and dual exhausts with four eleven gears you can really get lost got safety tubes, but i ain't scared, the brakes are good, tires: fair. With Alice and Pedro late one night, when the moon and the stars were shinin' bright, we was drivin' up, a great fine hill passin' cars like they were standin' still. All of the sudden in the wink of an eye a caddillac sedan passed us by, i said "boys, thats a mark for me" by then the taillights were all you could see. Now the fella's ribbed me for bein' behind, so i thought i'd make the Lincoln unwind, took my foot off the gas and man alive, i shoved it on down into over-drive! wound it up to a hundred-and-ten my speedometer said that i'd hit top end my foot was glued like lead to the floor, that's all there is, and there ain't no more! Now the boys all thought i'd lost my sense, and telephone poles looked like a picket fence they said "Slow down, i see spots, the lines on the road just look like dots!" took a corner, sideswiped a truck, crossed my fingers, just for luck my fenders was clickin' the gaurdrail post, the guy beside me was white as a ghost! smoke was comin' from out o'the back when i started to gain on that cadillac, knew i could catch him, thought i could pass, don't ya know by then we'd be low on gas! we had flames comin' from outta the side, feel the tension, man what a ride! i said "look out boys, i got a license to fly!" and that caddy pulled over and let us by! now all of the sudden she started knockin' down a little, she started to rock, i looked in the mirror red lights was blinkin' the cops was after my hot rod lincoln! they arrested me, and they put me in jail, they called my pappy to throw my bail and he said "Son you're gonna drive me to drinkin' if you don't stop drivin' that

HOT!

ROD!

LINCOLN!"

Hee, hee. I think that one's been around since the early 50's when Cads, Olds, and Lincolns were the only cars with OHV (overhead valve) V-8's. I think the Lincolns even won some Mexican road races that were big in the early 50's. Anyway, if you had a hot rod, you needed one of those brands of OHV V-8's if you wanted to be fast. The competition was the Chrysler Hemi, but I don't think they were out til about '53. Otherwise you were running against a flat head Ford, a GMC 6, or not much else.
I think that song is by George Thorogood and is called Hot Rod Lincoln. You can probably still get it off Napster.

I wonder if Napster will sometimes have the Commander Cody version. Have you ever seen it there?

PGkelly.

I love those old car songs, 409 (yes even though its about a GM), Bucket T by Jan & Dean, Hey Little Cobra by the Rip Cords, and many others.

Hot Rod Lincoln is a kick a$$ song to, but I believe it was orginally writen in the late 40's early 50's and sung by Charlie Ryan.

Theres a few diffrences between the original and Commander Cody, but there barley noticable. One of them says 12 cyls, the other says 8, small crap like that.
