![]() All these were in the daily driven car...'87 GT on a 3 line highway.....
First on the way to the Dave Matthews concert a conv. 5.0 the same color as mine pulls up and the guy smiles. we play tag through traffic and i pull on him from behind every time. He would start 3 cars ahead and i would poull back to his bumper, this happened a couple times. exchanged thumbs up and went to the show, which was great BTW. On the way home from the concert ( 1AM) i pull along side a SLK with AMG badges on it. i drop to 3rd at 75 mph and he kicks it from 2 cars behind up to my bumper and i nail it and pull away a couple cars to 105 or so acording to rpms and gear calculations. The next tiem he surprises me and does a flyby and i drop it to 3rd again and after he slows down i pass him, yes i did a flyby, in 4th at like 4200 RPMs (i have 2.73 gears). The last run he started 2 cars ahead at 85 mph and nails it (I see the carbon), and i drop to 4th and hit it.....i pull back slowly till he brakes to the ramp....we exchange thumbs up! Wasn't any good side by side starts, but it was fun playing with that car. by thwe way i would inch back on him i think if we started even i would have pulled him The 3rd and best run. Cruzing down the interstate adn i come up on a new Prelude with a VTEC badge on the driver side trunk lid. Its lowered with rims and 2 A-pillar gauges. Guy's in his upper 20s...real clean car. 1 st run he starts 2 cars back i see him nail it...i drop to 3rd and hammer the 207K 5.0. he pulls next to me and even edges me out a bumper lenght b/c of his early jump. top of 3rd his pull stops ![]() great runs....all the guys except the ones in the Honda gave a thumbs up! I honestly thought the VTEC Prelude was going to beat me in the highway run. Never can tell ![]() Went home and changed the oil/filter b/c of those awesome runs the 207K 5.0 gave me...ha ha ha. ------------------ '86 GT. Gears & Flows '87 GT. Stock |

![]() Good Runs EZ!
The runs on the freeway are fun and with my area's lack of stoplights, it's all I ever get. ![]() 207k on that baby? That's impressive.. Those 5.0's can run forever. The only thing that caused my 145k engine to go was the oilpump and the oilpump shaft(the only weaknesses of the 302imho). If you have nothing better to do and don't mind the hassle of removing the oil pan. You could replace these with heavy duty parts or just wait for them to go. With that many miles, I think you got your money's worth.. ------------------ formerly 96cobra89lx306 (96Cobra/softtop-3.73,almdrvsht,fancontrl,steeda sbfrmes+shifter,eibachspgs,KYB's,FR-upper arms,Saleen copy-polished 18's,pulleys,Bassani X pipe(gutted),C&L 80mm Cobra DYNO 301rwhp horsepower before gutting the X pipe 93 Ford Probe Gt(slower but turns) |

![]() While you have the pan off, put in a windage tray and a crank scraper. Cheap, easy horsepower.
