				 | Gears: Can you really knock off 9 tenths?? "ET GUESSES" One of the salesman for the company that I work for who also builds race car engines told me that some of the cars that he has worked on have dropped 9 tenths in the quarter with a simple gear swap. I was expecting to knock off about 5-7 tenths in the quarter after my gear swap from 2.73's to 3.73's. This will be the first "major" mod that I have done to my car and I cant wait to see how much it helps, also after the gear swap should I run more MPH than I am now? ------------------ 88 mustang gt convertible bored to 306 BBk equal length headers mac cold air fender kit cowl hood nitto drag radials ford racing clutch flow masters h-pipe 160* thermostat 16 degrees of timing electric fan off 94' t-bird jacobs electronics cap and wires. you'll pick up a bit but not close to 9 tenths, more like .2-.3 as for m.p.h to increase mph you need more hp. ------------------ 93-LX: 5 Speed, Flow's with H-Pipe, 3.73's Sub's and K&N. | |

				 | Well, I dropped 7/10's by swapping to a five speed. Though I dropped some spinning weight, it's basically a change in gear ratio. It went from 2.40 1st gear, to 3.35, which is like having an auto with 3.73's. Now, I went to 3.55's from 2.73's and my traction went to sh!t. I went from 14.7(@65*) to 15.0 (@95*). The temperature differences would probably equal out the times, but I was pissed. ------------------ 90LX Ragtop. 14.7@95.3 Strut tower brace, K&N, 2.25'' Flowmasters, Hollow cats, Crank pulley, Crane 2031, Crane rockers, Holley FPR, 155lph, Heavy duty clutch, and alum quadrant.
