I got beat tonight.
I have not lost a race on the street in a long time. Here's the story. The new wife and I went out for a cruise on Gratiot tonight. A Viper RT/10 pulls next to me at a red light, with a convertible LT1 Vette on the other side of me. We all take off slow from the light and the Vette starts goosing it. The Viper guy was not even looking, so I let the Vette go first and I walked him by a couple cars by the top of 3rd. We slow down and the Viper pulls next to me and picks his gear!
I open the bottle and cocky me motions for him to take the jump. He does with me a tick behind. I am in 3rd at around 3000 rpm and put the go pedal down. The R's start to come up and I am not catching him! He let off before I got to see my shiftlight shine in 3rd. I got to his door, but never got the carlength jump back. DAMN! So we stop at the next light and get ready to go from a dead dig. The light turns, and he idles out, the leaves. I did not let him get the jump this time and stomped it in first, got a fender on him and pull second while I hear him catching rubber through the gears like crazy. I am running 3rd to the top and he is right about my rear tire. Just before the shiftlight lit, I broke up a bit on the top, then we let off due to us rapidly approaching traffic ahead. First I am thinking, There is no way that thing was stock. I have my 150 jets in, and have beaten a couple GTS Vipers with only the 100 shot. This was a dark colored RT with silver stripes. No GTS that is for sure. I get home and bring my bottle in to put it in the freezer before tomorrows race day fill up. I throw it on the scale and it weighs 16 lbs! The thing weighs 14 lbs, 12 oz empty. Reguardless, I raced and he got me. No excuses. ------------------ 1988 Mustang GT 11.8 @ 123 (7/14/01) 1992 BadAzz Wrangler 1993 Explorer |

Sweet anyways man! I wish I had a 11 sec street car. With some better traction that 123MPH should be good for 11.5ish.
Good Stuff. |

A Viper can run in the 11's with MINOR mods so I would have to believe he was about stock. A guy I now has a gts that ran 11.7@121 with MINOR mods so dont kid yourself into thinking they are not much of a threat.

There was no way he was stock. Don't worry about just get that bottle filled up and go get him. Just don't give him the jump this time. Cool story.

I am really not sure if he was stock or not. I would love to think he was modded. I know that GTS's can trap 117-120, and the early side exhaust RT/10's were only a high 12 around 110 car. I think the new RT's are somewhere in between.

Again, GREAT races!!!
You can't win them all, but it sounds like you gave him a hell of a run. You should be proud. Plus, I bet he is scratching his head over what the heck this little Mustang had in it! E ------------------ 1991 5.0 LX Coupe - 38,000 miles 13.17 @ 106.14 mph w/ 2.138 60' |

That sucks man, but atleast you have the balls to admit it
The 96+ RT's have the same motor as the GTS's....it may have been a ACR. The GTS runs 119-120 traps stock, that is deep 11 sec mph. ------------------ Dustin Saleenized 89 GT,428 rwhp,TFS Street Heat Intake,TFS TW Heads,TFS #2 cam,BD-11A 9 psi,FRPP 1.6 rr's,BBK 70mm TB,Pro-M 75mm Bullet,MSD 6BTM, FMS 9mm wires,BBK longtubes,BBK Short H-pipe,American Thunder cat back,3.55's 12.3@119 http://www.mustangworks.com/rides/pictures/Listing1549-slot1.jpg |

Atleast you admit it sounds like you had a hell of alot better racing than what i saw last night i watched a 89gt barely nose out a civic si with nothing more than a cold air and a exhaust and it only runs 15.2 at the track so that was weake

It was a very cool race. The close ones always are. He got me the first time, I got him the second run. Eye for an eye I guess!

Nice race. Damn sounds like 1 more mph would have done it for you. Too bad the bottle wasn't full.
I havn't lost yet here. Cars gettin a reputation. Theres a 82 Capri with a 351 and a T-5 that wants to race me now soon as my cars fixed. He thinks hes going to be the fastest car in Ojai. But I'm definatly crakin the bottle. :-D. Im sure that car was modded GP6T slaughters cobras in his Solara that has a gutted cat. So you never know whats gonna get you all the hp. I finally suffered my first loss, BUT to my credit, I had him through 1st until my clutch shattered. He had a SystemMax kit with a 150 shot....would have been a good race. After I got my clutch fixed, I asked him to run again, and he walked away....chicken I guess. He was probable the only @$$hole stang guy I have met yet.
Speaking of fast cars, there is a guy that works at O'Reily that has a Fiero with the cadillac 32v Northstar Engine AND a 200 shot.....YIKES. ------------------ Dustin 89 Saleen GT Sport,428 rwhp,TFS Street Heat Intake,TFS TW Heads,TFS #2 cam,BD-11A 9 psi,Crane 1.6 rr's,BBK 70mm TB,Pro-M 80mm MAF,MSD 6BTM, FMS 9mm wires,BBK longtubes,BBK Short H-pipe,American Thunder cat back,3.55's 12.3@119 http://www.mustangworks.com/rides/pictures/Listing1549-slot1.jpg |

Don't feel too bad, Rob. The Vipers' torque curve on motor looks like yours on spray, but wider. You'd be surprised what a few bolt-ons do for an 8.0L motor...

Sounds to me like it was an even race -- nobody won, nobody lost. Street races will almost always be slightly "unfair" because there is no "tree" to keep things fair for both parties.
I wouldn't say you lost. ------------------ Jeff Kane 1990 LX Mustang Coupe |
