I will never go 10's!!!!!
The car club I am in, www.motownmuscle.com went to St. Thomas Dragway in Canada for our season opener Saturday.
I made 4 motor passes, All 12.0's @ 111-112, then I sprayed it to an 11.15 @122.86 mph. My 60 ft was a nice 1.54, the 1/8th mile was 7.10 @ 99 mph, BUT NO STINKIN" 10!!!!! I did not powershift the "glass T-5" considering I drove my car to the track, But I figured with my previous fuel system issue fixed I would have it in the bag. Nope. And on my spray pass my PCV line blew out of the back of the intake, and also shot out the screen and the bushing. That has never happened before. I guess I may have a serious blow-by issue on my hands. Any suggestions on what I could do to pick up maybe two mph? I was tossing these Ideas around: Switching to long tubes and an X-pipe Swapping out the E-303 cam for ?????? Powershifting the T-5 MORE NAAWWWSSSS!!!! I also tried swapping on a 70 mm throttle body in place of my 65. Absolutely no difference at all. I placed 2nd in the quick 8, beat a 383 LT1 Camaro in the first round, then lost to a 10.90 383 Trans Am in round two. |

If you can pick up a F cam to use, id go with that. An F cam is a great power adder cam, and works a bit better then the E cam. With running an 11.1 with the E, im pretty sure you will pick up a few more .10ths and be in the 10's without changing anything but your Cam. Going from a 65mm to a 70mm could have actually hurt you, since with a N/A-Nitrous car you arent trying to force so much air into the Intake so you dont need such a big opening, a street/nitrous car always works great with a 65mm T/B. I say go with the F303 cam

Damn your gettin close... Hmm, did your plugs melt or anything this time? Id you get all those problems resolved? I thought u were gettin 125mph before. Id try some race fuel and a little more aggressive tune? that might get you there.

You still have some great times.
I would start with long tubes and an X or H-pipe (more expensive than a cam, but easier install). Your combo would definitely benefit from a different cam. Didn't Rick91GT drop something sick like .4 from his 1/4 mile time when he switched to an Anderson Ford Motorsport cam? A custom grind would help you a lot.

I just swapped out to long tubes, h-pipe, mac produmps from bbk equallength shorties, h-pipe, and flowmaster cat back. It is obvious that I picked up time (I think 1 to 2mph) so you might pick up even more. And the sound from the produmps is without a doubt the best sound I have heard from a 5L car.

If it's only the number that matters, just add a little more nitrous, get your 10, and be done with it. Long-term, think about a 302 or, better yet, 351W stroker motor....
In my opinion, a stroker motor is about the best way to spend $$ on a car. You get added hp while also freshening up the motor at the same time......it's a win-win situation. |

I'd go with the long tubes and a custom cam.

I do believe I resolved my fuel system issue. I added a T-rex pump and did not melt any plugs this time. Although my previous best mph was 125. This weekend I only ran 122 something. I had my inital timing at 10 degrees for the spray, and when I ran 125 I had the timing at 15 degrees initial. So the extra timing I was running before may have contributed. This weekend I also ran with about 1/2 94 octane and half Torco 110.
It smells nice. I also think I should be running a little quicker on the hose. I would imagine that a 150 shot should get me around 12 or 13 mph, not 10 mph. Maybe a dyno-tune with a wideband might get things in order. An N.O.S. Tech guy told me that his Mustang traps 108 on motor, and 122 on a dry 150 shot! I know I could benefit from a cam with more than the E's 220 degrees @ .050. This cam should stop making power around 5500 RPM, and on the dyno I peaked @ 5800. I dunno, It would really suck to spend a day swapping my cam and not go any faster. |

Man, you are SO close!!! I think you should definately get rid of the E-cam. I don't really care much for it. The F cam previously mentioned is really a good cam. But It works better with superchargers than nitrous. You should look into getting a custom ground cam. If you do, get Ed Curtis to grind you one. He does some of the best nitrous cam's etc out there. I don't think long tubes will really benefit you at the moment. Get the custom cam, and spray some more NAWSSSS!!! If you don't want more nitrous, get a big fart pipe and some japanese writing...that will surely get you into the 10's..lol

So close, yet so far! I think that I'd switch cams also. I never did like the E cam that much (sorry, no offence - to all E cam users!)
I wish that I could have made it out to the track to see you guys, but something came up. Maybe next time I 'll finally get to meet you, Rob!

Damn those are nice times......and that 60' is sick! You're just about there man. I think you'd be there w/ either the cam upgrade or the longtubes and x-pipe. Both together should get you @ least .3 off that 11.1. Good luck....it's only a matter of time.

powershifting alone should do it, but I dont blame you for not doing it.. especially driving the car to the track.
if it's not an emissions problem, i cant understand why anyone would use shorties over long tubes. GET EM

I almost made it there for Saturday, but my T-5 is messed up again. How is the track? Last year I remember it as being awful, the starting line was pretty much untouched, and the kid spraying water into the burnout box always liked to spray the car a little bit if it went around the box. Anyway, I'm hoping to get my T-5 out and fixed this week, and then I'm off to Grand Bend, which is "supposed" to be better. If you go to St. Thomas or Grand Bend, drop me a line.
