Barrfight vs. Back to the Future DeLorean
OK, a buddy of mine just got home from the University of Iowa and called me up for like the first time in months. It seems his neighbor wants to race the kid in the red hatchback(me). He wants to race me in his DeLorean! All I know about these cars is that they aren't made anymore and that that's what the time machine from Back to the Future was. Does anybody have any info? My friend didn't specify year or model. He just said it's the same car as in the movie. thanks!

If it's stock, it runs to 60 in 11 seconds and hits a blistering top speed of 105mph.

mods?
I talked to my friend again and I guess he rode in the DeLorean. He says that it feels about as fast as my mustang and thinks it will be close. What mods are there for this car and is it possible to get it in the 13's? I know you can make any car fast, but has anyone ever seen a fast DeLorean?

I thought they were Renault engines, but I sure can't remember. I never heard of a fast one though.

They are slow. I heard they are ok in the turns but slow in the straight. I have never heard of any mods for them.

DeLoraan's are turbocharged and make like 140 horsepower or something incrediblely inept for even a 2.8L engine, but i have seen pages with DMC DeLorean buildups, but it usually consists of a bigger turbo or i saw one with an engine swap (forget what to, though). If i'm not mistaken, i believe that they're rear engined cars so if he has power he can probably hook up. If he has the stock engine, even slightly modified you should be able to take him unless it's had TONS of money spent on it.

Barely beat by him!
ok, i finally raced this guy. when he pulled up i instantly knew he wasn't driving a 2.xx liter dmc engine. It sounded like one of the redneck trucks i hear all over the place here in iowa(headers, straight pipe, you know what i'm talking about--obnoxiously loud). I told him i wasn't gonna race til he told and showed what he had. Well, he did, with a HUGE grin on his face. 32 valve Caddilac Northstar V8! I was impressed. Anyway he starts going on and on about how long it took him to cram that thing in there and blah blah blah. We finally got to the race. We started from a dead stop and he got a jump on me(DRs vs. my bfg's). he was about half a car length ahead of me the whole way through the race. I was just a step behind the entire way. I hate it when that happens. Niiiiiiiice car. Too bad I've got my bald @$$ BFG street tires. Oh, this was on motor only, no zex

Sounds like a pretty killer car. I bet that was kind of crazy to see an engine like that in a car like that. Interesting.... Was the car silver or was it painted some other color?
Good race! Get some new tires then BEAT HIM! |

I wonder what the Delorean in Back to the future had in it. If I remember correctly, it wasn't a 140 hp v-6. That thing sounded like a V-8 and seemed to move pretty good when it took off.

It was the stainless steel body, no paint. He said he might paint it because the body had a bunch of little dents in it here and there. You can't exactly fill them with body putty ;-).
You know 7up, I was wondering what the Back to the Future car had in it too. I looked but I couldn't find anything on the stats. I didn't exactly look really hard though. later

I seen one for sale in florida bout 12 years ago and it listed as having a 350 bowtie swap done to it. If I recall, the stock one was a renault 2.8L. You think John woudla known better, but then he did say "This stuff is as good as gold!"
