Thumbs down Couple of my friends had a close call while racing.

A couple friends of mine, one with a very nice bright orange '69 GTO (stock sb400/auto) and one with a decently nice '69 Chevelle (350 w/ intake/carb, auto) had a close call to disaster the other night while they were racing out in the country.

They were about 2/3 of the way down the 1/4 mile and the kid in the Chevelle, who was about a 1/2 car ahead saw a large pothole in the GTO's path, so he slammed on the brakes so the GTO could come over into his lane to miss it. Instead of the GTO coming into his lane, he went off to the side of the rode a little bit and then when he went to steer back onto the rode his back tires let loose and the car fishtailed on him. When he corrected he just about smacked into the side of the Chevelle but he got ahold of it just in time and kept it in his own lane.

They were both a little shaken afterwards and felt pretty lucky. I just told them that they should have checked out the road a little better beforehand and it all could have been avoided.

Anyways, surprisingly enough the Chevelle was winning and ever so slowly pulling away. Neither of them spun, both cars are pretty dang slow, but an even match.

Just thought I'd share.....be careful everyone!

Wow, you guys are all lucky no one got hurt. I should be dead 10 times over, so i know exactly the "oh...sh/t!!!" feeling you get while something like that is happening. Glad to hear everyone came out ok. Too bad it wasn't interrupted, that sounds like a good (but slow as you say) race

I never race on unfamiliar roads. I guess its dumb to race on the street period. I am as guilty as anyone, but knowing the terrain can make it alot safer.

Ide rather be lucky than good any day.

I know we are all guilty of street racing from time to time, but this just illustrates why we should be keeping this stuff at the track if possible...

Hey Geno, your from omaha?? Cool. And seriously, 6T9, how come all of your friends have cool cars, and most of the kids where i am at have ricers, and they say mustangs are gay?? Only like 2 of myfriends have decent cars, (One is a 71 Chevelle, and an Olds 442, one of my friends have a v6 95 stang, but im talking about muscle here ). So, yes, THERE IS NOTHING TO DO IN NEBRASKA!! Geno, you ever go driving at all? Im usualy out driving Fridays or saturdays, but its gettin too close to snow . And yes, street racing is dangerous, but i do it, some guy tried racing me in an ALTIMA on a road that curves, he dropped me a rev on a 30 mph roll and he floors it. And this is right about at a turn, so i just slam on the brakes, cuz his back end slides into my lane, he hits a curb, bends his wheel, sparks are goin everywhere, then he pulls a 360 and hits the other side of the street, hops over the curb and parks it, he was ok, but people need to learn when to go fast and when not to go fast.

Default too close for comfort...

Wow, they were lucky, glad to hear they are both ok.

A year or so ago I saw a similar situation out this way. Two guys racing, boths cobras and the road was torn up. One of the guys lost it and went straight into a light pole, tore his car in two even pieces, split right down the center. He died on impact. One of the scariest things I've ever seen...

Race Safe!

yeah most people are stupid about racing. Not to long ago i had a damn s-10 v6 try and race my 91 stang and i had two soliders in the care with me i was going like 30 and this guy pulls up next to me in the truck and revs I think anyway i couldn't here him and then takes off I just kept going 30 mph. My two soliders in the car with me started running their mouths i was just like you guys are stupid. If you even had a clue you wouldn't be saying anything. Then at the gate of post I pulled up next to the truck and they could here the car rumble then and i was like o did you wanna have a real race met me for a couple hunderend bucks ofcourse all they did is look at me.
It is sad how people think about racing these days. I had another kid in a grand am 4 door wanna race for money i couldnt' believe what i was hearing it is very sad what people do.

My friends' so called "hot rods": '69 GTO, '70 GTO, '69 Chevelle, '67 Chevelle (hit TWO deer so it's not drivable at the moment), '71 Cougar, '77 T/A, '67 Mustang Coupe, '99 Eclipse (no turbo), '92 Camaro RS, '70 Charger, '70 Challenger, '77 Roadrunner, '71 Torino, '98 Camaro V6, '73 Nova.....that's about all I can think of right now....probably got them all.....

Most of them aren't that nice, but aren't too bad. The '69 GTO is very nice, he is the one that was racing. The '71 Torino has a rebuilt to stock (besides cam) Cleveland and is very nice, also. The rest of them have some trouble areas.

A lot of the guys who are into cars around here do get involved with muscle cars, at least.

It's quite nice to have a bunch of guys that don't go the rice route, I'm thankful for that. Although, I do appreciate a small amount of rice because it's entertaining to laugh my *** off at them.

Thanks srv about the webpage and car....I appreciate it!
