'00GT vs. Mach I
Raced some kid in a new blue Mach I from about a 60mph roll on the freeway. I had a 260lb passenger and he was by himself. I dropped it into 3rd and stomped it and we were pretty much even all the way through 4th up to about 105 where I let off because I could see some cars up ahead. I thought I would get pulled on a little from a roll but it didn't happen.
I wish the track was still open. I have surprised myself with the cars I hang with or beat since I got the 4.10s. I don't think I'm making more than 285 or so at the crank, but she runs about even with low-13 second cars on street tires if I get a good launch.

SWEET! What kinda rpms are you turnin with those gears? Is first gear useless or hard to launch well with?

I'm turning about 2500 rpm at 70mph with a 5-speed and 285/40-17's out back. First gear is definitely trickier now, but if I just slip the clutch off the line and let it out just right as it gets rolling and I floor it I don't usually break traction as long as the road is smooth. If the road is not good it will spin them no matter what at the top of 1st. I have to shift a hair slower into 2nd on street tires or it will roast them good, but once I got used to it I am stomping other cars out of the hole.
I also have stiffer springs than most folks run on the street, so if I can launch with 4.10s then anyone should be able to with practice. In front I have 350 lb/in coilovers, which is the equivalent of 1250 lb/in in the stock position. Out back I have 450 lb/in springs in the stock location with a torque arm and panhard bar. I'm sure if I ran softer springs it would be much easier to launch.

blue00gt, I gotta say, man, I've always loved how your car looks from the first time I saw it. Really like what you done to it, not much, but just enough (and also the color). Good race, BTW. Any other plans for the car in terms of engine or exhaust mods?

Thanks, Fox Body.
As far as what's next for the stang, I have a Spec Stage II clutch, aluminum flywheel, and aluminum driveshaft that just need to be installed. After that I plan on saving up some money and getting the Kenne Belle twin screw 8psi intercooled kit early next year. The only thing left on my plan to buy after that is a roll cage, 5-point harnesses, rear seat delete, and Baer 12" rear brake kit. At that point I should have the full package as far as handling, braking, acceleration, and appearance. Nothing else to buy except what I break with the extra horsepower (maybe a T56 when the T45 dies).
