Post Took down a 5.9 R/T

I lined up with a Dodge 5.9 R/T tonight. We were even until I hit second and pulled a little bit on him. By the middle of second, I could start to see his headlights in my rear view mirror. We came to the next light and talked for a minute. He complimented me on the cleanliness of my car and I told him he had a nice ride too. Even though I won, I was a little dissapointed becasue I thought these trucks ran in the 15's. He had an automatic too.

Crazy, I think they do run 15's. You beat him though, so why disappointed? What do you run?

I don't know what my car runs becasue I haven't had a chance to get it up to the track yet. I just got it about a month ago and it's my first t-5 so I'm still learning how to drive it.

I was dissapointed becasue I thought I would have killed him. Well, now that I think about it, we only raced to the top of second gear. I need to get a G-tech to give me an idea of what this car can run. I need some 4.10's too

Crazy, if you're anywhere close to a track, try it there and practice the launch and the reaction time. That will tell you a lot.

I use the G-Tech, but it's some optimistic both as to ET and especially MPH. Trust the track time slips the most.

Reaction time counts a lot in a heads up race. I beat lots of faster cars at the track when the driver is "asleep at the tree".

I think it's too late for the track now. I remember that it closed before Halloween last year so it's probably closed. I have been going out and driving as much as I can to learn the t-5. I have to enjoy this 55* November weather while it's here!

With my old 91 GT, my reaction times would be in the .600-.800 range. You are right about learning how to launch. I haven't got the hang of it yet. Half the time I go up in smoke, half the time I bog it. Every once in a while, I'll have a perfect launch but it's usually on a back road when I'm not racing anyone

Yeah I have beaten a couple of those trucks.

They are fast for a truck but no match for a stang.

]My buddy had one of those trucks and I went with him to the Dakota meet up in Michigan last year. Just about all the trucks ran in the low 15's stock. My buddies truck ran a 14.8 stock. The slowest one there ran like a 16.7 and some guy that look like he weighed 500lbs was driving it. And by the way, all those trucks are automatics.

Since then, my buddy put in a crate motor and added a 75hp shot of nitrous and was running low 12's.
Heres a pic of his truck.

I read a article on the Dakota R/T in Hot Rod. Man was I dissipointed. The heads suck, the intake sucks, the computer pulls out timing when you mat the gas. They put in a cam and it LOST 10HP. They basicly threw the whole mopar performance catolog at it and it still sucked.

Now if they had a 426 hemi(like I saw at a show) they would be a lot better.

Thumbs up

That is a bad *** truck, but I won't be trading my stang for one. It's nice to see someone take pride in their stuff and it shows that your friend does. He might be a little obsessive/compulsive like me

Does everyone wash their stang at least 3-4 times a week?

HAHA!! I'll wash my stang on the weekend and then just pull it into the garage to sit for a few days. After a couple days, I end up washing it again. My neighbors say they always see me washing it but they never see me drive it !

I forgot to mention that about 4 months ago that truck burnt to the ground. Some kind of problem in the ignition system. The insurance cut him a check and he bought a 2001 WS6 Trans-Am and has already installed a hot-cam, 160 thermo, 3.73 gears, MAF, Throttle body, 18in Wheels, K&N with lid. It doesnt get the looks that his truck always got.
