Really?? Thanks bro.. I was going to research that.
You realize I was kidding about the T/A?? I was surprised noone came back at me! If plans go like I hope they do, I'll have a new mustang in 2003. It depends on what they are offering then. I would like to have a GT with over 300hp, stock. A new Cobra is not out of the question though. Just depends on what is available at the time. In the back of my mind, I was hoping someone at Ford would see this post. If they put a strong 5.0 mod or better yet a 5.4 in the GT or Cobra.. I think we will have something here. 5.4 mod with 320 hp N/A would be a great starting point... I can see it now.. new black Cobra vert with blacked out windows and a blower... DON'T FORGET THE FORGED PISTONS THIS TIME, FORD!! Lizard King... I was looking at the member list the other night.. wondered what happened to ya. |

It's pretty easy to get over 300hp from a 1996-1998 4.6L GT. Swap on 99GT heads and cams, along with a Bullitt intake and you'll probably be knockin at the 300hp door.
That's mostly because the older 4.6L SOHC GT engines used different pistons, making for higher compression. I believe I've seen about 11:1 quoted. I will in all likelyhood be getting rid of my Fox Body in the spring and getting a 99GT or newer. I hadn't even thought about considering a 96-98GT until the performance on the 99GT head/cam swap information started to float around. I would now consider them. |

You read that MM&FF, where the did the head and intake swap on a 98 I believe? And it made 320rwhp, and I was like HOLY CRAP!!!! That is awesome, untill I read that it had a 6PSI Powerdyne, Bassani X-pipe, exhaust, and some other stuff+the heads/intake swap.

Yeah, pretty crappy. From a car making 215hp stock to 385 with newer factory parts and a 6psi blower.
6psi will get you what? 75hp maybe on that combo? Did they change the pistons too? It was already running 11:1, not the best CR for a blower. Anyway, with 6psi that keeps the car around 300hp with just the head/cam swap, like I said. I think those are pretty nice numbers for a street car. |

The heads were just new 99+heads i believe, and they weren't ported or anything. The guy was only making like 252rwhp without the heads/intake swap. I don't think they put a cam in it did they? I am not sure, it's been a while since I've read the article. But it was a HUGE gain over his previous heads/intake. Maybe not all that impressive on paper, but 252 rwhp vs. 323rwhp(I think) is a good gain. |
