I tried to get a new Maxima (GLE?) to go on Braeswood here in Houston today. No response and I didn't want to appear as a complete @$$, so I didn't push it. The car had dark tinted windows so it may have been some old lady for all I know. I'm gonna keep looking for one that will go. I'm still not to worried about FWD 4 door sedans though.

LOL tsk tsk Rev picking on old ladies in family sedans now huh? I can just see you revving up on her and her shaking her head and muttering something about young punk kids not even looking over. Seriously though they are decently fast for a famiily sedan... when my car was stock I would barely pull them by maybe a car in the 1/4(I was probably running a low 15). My ex's dad has one and it is decent for a 4 door family sedan... i'd say almost on par with a stock GTP. I could see a modified one running pretty quick considering stock civics run in the 16's and they have them down into the 12's and 11's now.

I know FivepointOH, these guys have me questioning what I think that I already am aware of. I raced a Buick Regal (super charged and modded with a smaller SC pulley at HRP). The owner who I chatted with in the staging lanes was saying how he expected 14.0 or maybe into the high 13's. At the time, my car ran only low 14's, so I was ready for action when we did line up side by side. To make a long story even longer, I ran a 14.30 to his 14.7XX. I was surprised and he was to, but that's how it turned out.
That was a supercharged 3.8L Buick. I'm not sure what displacement the Maxima is, but am pretty sure it's 3.?L natually aspirated engine. Jap sedans are not known for light weight. I'd still be surprised if they can beat high 15's. Rev

You're not listening
Rev,
How many different sources to I have to Cite to get you to believe that the New Maxima weighs the same as a new GT. Check for yourself. The motor is a 3.5L VQ Series, the same motor going into the 350z. Of course they will tune the Z different, but in about 6 mos there will be guys making the same hp as the new Z which Nissan has not realeased HP numbers on yet. You can guess how fast they are all you want, or you can go test drive one yourself. Pretend you're interested and then beat the crap out of it from a light. You will probably be surprised.

Thanks Rev,
The GS's are fun, and great sleepers. The Maximas are competition for us only in 6 speed form. The automatics are pretty slow. Most stock GS's run high 14.6-14.9. There are a few factory freaks in the 14.2s-stock and in the 15s. The 6 speed Maxima is pretty much in line with a stock GS/GTP. I'll be swapping out my S/C pully and doing a few other minor mods and be deep in the 14s, its a bear to launch a FWD high torque SC'd car. I haven't seen the numbers on the Stillen S/C Maximas, but I would expect low 14s high 13s.

Deuce, I do listen, but I don't always hear, (old), hee, hee.
I did pull out a ROAD TEST ANNUAL 2002 (ROAD AND TRACK). There wasn't a Maxima but there was an Altima 3.5 SE 5 speed. Guess what, it ran 14.8 @ 96.8 mph!!! There was a 2002 Mustang GT that (5 speed), ran 14.7 @ 94.7 mph. I know these are magazine tests with Fat old men with bifocals doing the runs, but I was still impressed with the Altima's runs. I never would have guessed it. To make a long story short, Deuce is CORRECT, probably. Front wheel drive sedans still are quite a ways above 14 seconds though from what I've seen. Rev

Yeah, the FWD handicap is what kills those cars. I was reading a buddy's Sport Compact Car magazine (know your enemy) and they had a 60' test with a souped up Sentra somewhere in the neighborhood of 300 crank hp if I remember right. The best they mustered with it was about 2.8s 60' on street tires and 2.2s 60' on slicks! Pitiful...

blue, that's really not good at all, as you are aware. I get 2.11 60 ' times with 335 hp, C-4 auto, 2.35/15 's BFG TA's.
That's with a 2500 stall and a B&M shift kit and 3000 lbs curb (3150 race weight) Nothing special, I know, but fun. Rev

REV, you're right, it is very difficult to launch a FWD car. I think on average, the 60' is .a-.2 behind a comparable RWD. There are a lot of GTP/GS drivers cutting 2.2 and better 60' times. As far as the sentra with the 2.8. Remember, Ricers can't drive!!! Seriously thought, part of the imports problems is having a high horsepower/low torque FWD car. Too much rev's and spin forever, not enough and completely bog. A classic example is the older v-6 SHOs. On a roll they are pretty quick, but try launching them from a start, and you better be a damn good driver to cut anything below a 2.2.
Anyways, knowing your enemy is good. That's why I'm still here. J/K.

Answers....
Ok, so I did a little recon and came up with some answers. Not from a magazine, but a few Maxima message boards. I think I need a shower, cuz posting over there made me feel a little ricey. Anway, follow these links for support, but the general result is 14.3-14.5 @ 96-99. Not too shabby for a car that you could easliy slip past your wife (husband), eh?
Here's the links. http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/u...;f=10;t=000748 and http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....ght=1%2F4+mile The guys seem pretty reliable, they do call BS on each other, etc.

Glad to see this thread stayed clean. Shows we can discuss all types of cars. Those Maximas are quick. REV....that new Altima moves doesn't it? Thats crazy...lol. I have that magazine you got that from. I knew those things had some power. It was just surprising i guess to see it hang in there so strong.
Great comments guys! The Duece...nice work on finding those times. Those things are quicker than i thought! I must be runnin pretty good if i pulled him that hard in 3rd. Thats saying the guy i raced could drive. |

Those are about what times I run, my best was a 14.2 and I can run 14.4's all day. That means a new maxima 6spd will be right there beside me
I really need to get a h/i/c combo!! |

I can't find what sub forum that thread is in. They have too many and none of them seem to make sense. Kind of like them.

Its in the Section Kill Stories
"the one that didn't get away" Sorry I copied and pasted the story here: Good Story. "I was leaving my neighborhood yesterday when a black Maxima with black rims pulls in front of me from a side street. At the stop sign to turn on to Space Center he looks at me in his side mirror and smiles. Well I could see he had an exhaust and those rims had some pretty wide tires but I really wasn't worried. We were both turning left and he waited for traffic to pass so we could both easily get through the intersection and have some room to run. I followed him through and had already shifted to second expecting him to wait until I pulled next to him. He took off before I got to him though and I followed suite in second from about 20. Even with that advantage I didn't expect him to pull but by the top of second he had close to 4 lengths on me. At this point I was concerned but thought I would do better in third. He kept the 4 lengths all the way through. I gave up at this point because it wasn't safe to run any faster. I caught up to him while he was turning into a shopping center and asked what he was running. He said it was just the six with a supercharger. I didn't hear it but as fast as he was I don't doubt it was there. Does anyone know anything about these? It was the last model Maxima. I've seen him before so I will get a second chance and I will be ready for him. I don't like getting killed by a family sedan. Thanks guys and sorry for the length. U guys r good, I am glad 60' times came into all of it. And REV, I can tell u r "Old School" which is good, I respect that. U say u wouldnt pay attention to a Maxima. Y ? Noway to know what has been done to the Car. My 86 Grand Marqui 4,200 pounds Non-Mustang Motor Beast has 2.19 60' times. What do u think that translates out to be? hehe. To bad for me it DOESNT mean what it should mean. It means I launch good, but dont have the ET and or MPH to go with it.However, u can have 2 cars that r 1 Full sec away from each other and u could easily think they r the same time, just by what happens on the start, whether rolling or not.My Car had Light Modifications(meaning NO Internal Engine Work and NO Spray) yet, From about Dead stop to Half Track, I am NOT scared the least little bit by a Maxima(stock assuming). I went from a 17.96 at 78 to a ? at ? with a 2.19 60'---2.74 60' The First Pass.Yes I do street race it so I cant post exact ET and MPH.PS: The Acura 3.2TL's r little sleepers aswell,I am surprised noone mentioned them, if they did I missed it. I saw 1 that appeared New and stock run 14.2 at 98.
