Icing the Intake on 5.0's....
Hey guys, just curious to know what you all do when you ice the intake on your cars. I know that my 95 GT doesn't like heat at all. So when I do finally get to the track here in the next week or to I want to ice the intake.
Just curious to know what you use for ice (I know it's ice I mean blocked, crushed, etc) and how long you ice for, etc. Thanks. |

I use a 10lb bag of ice wrapped in a towel (so water doesn't get everywhere). I'm interested to see what others on the board are doing as well.
I know there's this newer product out there that stays frozen if kept in a cooler and doesn't sweat all over the motor either. I think it's towel shaped so you can get maximum coverage on the intake. I saw it in a magazine a year ago or so...

When i was really into it, and iced my intake at the track, i just used standard bags from anywhere, iced the entire intake tract, including the MAF, also I brought a bug sprayer and cooled of the radiator too, eventually i went to the electric pump deal and a generator at the track and just kept circulating the fluids till cool.

I actually got the idea from a Ford Dealer. I was in there talkin about the S281's with one of the salesmen and he was sayin they ran a new one at the track to a 13.9, then iced the intake and used slicks and ran a 13.2. I thought it'd be a cool (no pun intended) idea next time I go.......

I put a wet towel on the intake for about 5-ten min. then I put the ice wrapped in the towel... as for the intake trac. I have the bbk c.a.i since that gets hot after driving or what not it defeats the reason to have it so I got heat wrap and wrapped it it may not look great but my it works great it dropped almost a .15 off my et and a1/2 mph and that was the only change that was made so I know it worked........
