Fact or Fiction
Just curious, but do many of you guys believe that the 03 Cobra is capable of running a 12.3 bone stock on street tires? I have seen several people claiming that they have seen it happen in chat rooms and on a few import boards, but whenever I hit the Mustang sites, I see no sign of those inflated times. Not trying to start a flame war, just want some factual accounts of times for the 03 Cobra.

Doesnt really matter to me... 12.3, 11.8, 10.0 ... its all out of my league! But I think 11s is pushing it a little! I mean geez. Even Viper with 450hp and 500tq are having a hard time to run 11s stock!

Define "Stock"
Here's my take. You NEVER can believe what you hear or read. Hell, even 5.0 mag reported on a "Stock" '02 GT running 13.720 (which is somewhat beleiveable). They said that the car was stock except for the shifter. After a few tweaks (which is no longer stock in my book - not even lowering the mfg's recommended tire pressure), they were able to pump out a 13.720 @ ~102. Well, the article told on them. I am near stock with weld in exhaust and a mass air kit (C&L). I dynoed at 230 rwhp and the car they ran dynoed 238. You do the math. the car was not stock. It may have LOOKED stock but I doubt it was stock. You can change the pulley on an 03 Cobra and the untrained eye would probably not notice (or get a custom chip, or gears, or ....). The 03 in question was probably not stock - not with an average driver in it anyway...

I believe it. Even high very high 11s. Combination of cool temperature, sunny day and decent track with VHT... very possible.

I find it very hard to believe, but possible.
Youd need a very sticky track, and exceptionally good running car and very good weather. The cars going to neeed to trap about 114-115 and pull a 1.9 60'. A pretty tall order, but possible. Skyler

drag radials
I would believe mid 12's with drag radials. Hard for me to believe on stock street radials.

You guys are talking about tiems but forgetting factors like Elevation, Humidity, AIr temp, track temp, wind and wind direction. and most importantly the Driver.
I watched one run myself at Freemont (NHRA Track) on drag radials run a 12.66. freemont is 2600ft above sea level it was 76 degrees with a 69degree track temp (low sun) still and 56% humidity.

I say BS the very best drivers are not breaking the 12.8 barrier in my area (bone stock)
It has the HP to do it but on street tires no way. Later,

Dark5.0, 12.8????
Comon guys. Under the right conditions it is possible to see high 11s. For hells sake 12.8 is only .6 better than my stock GT times. You would think 150WHP would give you better than .6 improvements.

I don't see a 12.3 that hard to believe at sea level, we've already seen that these things put down 365+ from the factory and pulling the silencer gains 10 or so. Take out the spare, etc. and it's got the horsepower to run 114 mph. With a 1.95 60' time which is possible on a well prepped track (the 2001 cobras have no problem seeing these 60' times at Mission raceway park) a 12.3 would be no problem. From what I've seen, the 2001 cobra seems to do better on street tires than most of us can do with our foxes out of the hole.
The way these things respond to bolt ons I'll bet that there are a few running 10's on less than $2500 worth of mods. 95mm C&L mass air w/K&N filter $295 +23rwhp Longtubes and H-pipe $699 +40 hp Dynomax exhaust $399 Lightning pulley $80 +70 hp M/T ET streets $320 Rims for the ET streets $300 Custom chip $300 20?+hp $2393=500+RWHP and sticky tires could be 10's!

What the hell are you taking about?
My stock time is stock. No K&N, no tint, no drag radial... can't be more straight off the showroom.

october issue of m.m&f.f has a story about a 2003 cobra and even smith got it to a 12.43 @ 113 mph. said all he did was let it sit for an hour or so to cool off and powershifted every gear and got those time on the stock rubber. then with just the smaller pulley on and the air filter pulled got a 12.10 @ 117 mph, still on stock rubber. then they got serious and got som e.t streets, skinnies in front, passenger seat pulledthe jack and spare taken out and engine iced down. best time in that shape was 11.68 @119.36 m.p.h. doesn't take much to get them to fly.
