Default Whats the deal with Gtech

Sup guys,

Well, i have seen it in magazines, on tv, and in the catalogs, but how well does it actualy work? That Gtech unit only has to plug into your cigarrett lighter? So it tells you your 1/4 mile, 0-60, 60ft times too? But how accurate is it? Also, do you have to run a 1/4 mile track for it to tell you the time? Lol, if you only plug it in to the cig lighter, i dunno how the H*ll it would be able to do all these things. Sounds like its worth the $180 or so.

The only thing the G-Tech is good for is comparisons. See the difference between two mods.

ALL the times, MPH's, and HP#'s are over inflated.

The G-tech works on an acceleration principle based on how much the G-tech unit itself tilts for a given time = acceleration #'s etc.

Too much BS for getting actual times.

Like I said though, it is good for comparison sake. Just not accurate!

The members on this board who own the Gtech and drag race their cars report accuracy on average of 0-2 tenths off, reading 3-4mph fast.

It's pretty accurate.

I'd love to have one....but in my situation, $140 is better off being spent somewhere else.....like on parts.....duh.....

G-Techs are absolutely accurate +/- 2 mph and about a tenth or so in the ET. They work based on an inertia sensor. If you have the inertia data from anything you can tell it's speed, acceleration and evern "jerk" which is the rate of change of acceleration. Basically it has some basic computing power to crunch some of the numbers and spit out ET's and MPH's. The HP reading it puts out requires you to input the cars weight, then it just uses the acceleration per weight figures and converts them to the hp units.

Can beat it for tunning. Really clears up the picture on what really makes a difference and what doesn't (i.e changing fuel pressure, adding a small bolt on, etc.).

actually the mph are higher than at the track because g tech measures it differantly than a race track.
they are pretty darn accurate though, much better than tryin to tell seat of the pants improvements.

Mines been quite accurate, although some people over at honda-acura seem to differ.
