Video :) And a question...
Hey,
A friend of mine thought that his "Done Up" SUV (Ford Escape with Catback and Intake runs 15.8 at the track) would have a chance against my 1973 Mach1 351 4V. So we took er to a road we know of, not to long and raced up to 70 MPH. Results are in the video. http://www3.telus.net/public/supeg93/Beatdown.avi Anyways, from the look of the video and taking in consideration that he runs 15.8-15.9's at the track all day (4X4) what does it look like I can expect in the 1/4 mile? Any guesses? Another friend of mine with a done up Prelude wants a piece as well..... So just wondering how much I can expect to beat him by. I also have another funny video of us going at it from a roll (He thought he would have a better chance cause I got 4.11) Specs 351 Cleavland 750 Holly Double Pumper Carb Comp Camp 4.11 Posi Rear Bored .30 over Edelbrock Headers Full custom Cat back (Shitty muffler and 1 1/2 inch pipes! I know I know I need bigger!) MSD Ignition Edelbrock Intake |

When you say the escape has an "intake", you're speaking of a Cold Air Kit right? Not an actual upper intake plenum...
Considering that and a cat-back exhaust usually nets you next to no horsepower in most applications (at least for late model mustangs), its hard for me to believe that this guy's escape runs 15.8, maybe 17.8... Where did he get these numbers from? As far as your times, I would guesstimate low 14s with a good 60 foot....

He got his #'s from the track slip. I was there to see it.
They run low 16's stock. Think he ran 16.2 stock. 201hp For a 3280 SUV... V6 Stangs have 190hp and weigh around 3200-3300 pounds and what do they run about? He has Borla Cat Back and some kind of cold air intake (Not sure what brand) Things peppy for sure, I drove it once (Well for a SuV) We only took it up to 70 (110 KM) then shut them down. Obviously there would be even more of a lead if we took them higher (no room). Think that, that much of a lead would only translate to 1.5 second lead on the 1/4 mile? I gotta take er to the track I think... |

I JUST looked at the video.Assuming that he runs a 15.8;the Mach 1 is For Sure faster than a Low 14 Folks!.He is @1 car out at the 1st pole,(and he spun)and +@5 mph.@8 cars and +@12mph at the 2nd.The Mach 1 makes it to the 3rd pole @1.5 secs before the other guy gets to the 2nd pole.He runs @1/8 mile before the video shuts off.Look how far the Mach 1 is ahead.Later.

15.8 sounds kinda out there for one of those....whats the mph and the 60' maybe we can see were the et is coming from but for somthin to compare to i ran against an svt contour who picked a grudge match with me for what reason i dont know...but i think he ran like a 16.3 i think...if i can find the time slip i will tell u for sure but i would think one of those could take an escape...just a thought....

Newer V6 stangs run more like solid 15s with a 5-speed and a bit slower with an auto.

Those numbers actually seem reasonable. My '84 5.0LX with 2.73 gears and auto ran 15.7@87 with a 2.3 60-ft bone stock. It had around 180 horsepower and weighed close to what the Escape weighs. I'm sure the Escape is geared better, too.

I guess all the V-6's I have messed with either had a plug wire off or were messing with me.

Agree
I have to agree with 86 Grand Marqui on this one. I think my wife's '00 ES 300 probably runs mid 16's or there abouts. I also believe I could waste a V-6 Mustang if need be. I will admit that I've never really have done that race. Still, I believe the Lexus would prevail by a noticeable margin.

I don't think the SUV's time is really in question, the guy says he saw it, both the run and the slip. A high 15 is not really out the question for a 200hp, 3200 pound car. The 4V cleavlands were pretty fast to begin with, yours is modded a bit. I don't a 13 is out of reach at all. Maybe even a deep 13. Go to strip and find out! We all really need to know.
The thing I can't believe is that guy sees you blow your tires off, and thinks, if its from a roll he will have a better shot?!?? What made him think he even had a chance at all? Are kids really that dumb that think a cool air and shiny muffler is suddely going to make their car fast??

I just checked the sites analyzer:
200hp (not even going to guess at the hp gained with mods) 3400pounds 14.98@91 Seems that he could be alot faster.........

I don't know anything about those vehicles. My point was that the Mach 1 is much faster than a low 14.(Based on the video)IF the other guy runs a 15.6 or so.At the end of the video the Mach 1 is probably close to 200 feet ahead of him. I know it's hard to tell from the video.Might be more.Lets say 200.That's faster than a low 14 folks. I run a 16.38 with a 2.19 60',slow98; and I am A LOT heavier than any of the vehicles mentioned.

The '84LX was more like 3000-3100 lbs with the 5.0 and if I remember correctly it had 240 or 250 lb-ft of torque.
