Lamborghini (can't really call it a race)
The other day going home from work on the 101 freeway, I saw a low black car a couple hundred yards ahead getting on the freeway with some serious speed. I gunned it up to about 100 to check it out, when all I see is a lot of black smoke and the thing pulling like I was stopped. Judging from how fast he was leaving me, he was doing over 150.
Later on traffic slowed down and I caught up and saw that it was a Countach. I revved him just for kicks, but he got off at the next ramp. Just thought I'd share that because I've never seen a car pull like that on the street... |

What's wrong with Ford? Why won't they build something like that? Just once, and make it somewhat attainable, like the R. He11, even an S351 Saleen, without the Saleen price tag. Something!!!

they gave us our Mustangs, now we can build what we want.....
for Ford to build a car like a viper, porsche, ferarri or a Countach the sticker would be just as big... and I would prefer a car I built... I read an article once that claimed GM made $5,000.00-$6,000.00 on every Suburban sold... ------------------ Black, 84 GT, T5, ground effects, shorty headers, dual exh., rear spoiler from a 87.. In the works; 4:10's, 89 ported heads, edelbrock Performer, matched cam and holley carb (?? size) |

Countachs aren't that fast....maybe low 13's@105's...top out around 180 though. I imagine once they get goin, they move.
I raced a Magnum P.I. 308 Ferrari once....that was a disappointment if I have ever seen one. I left him at the light, beat him by about 3 cars to 80. I ran low 13's then. You know, as a kid, I always saw Ferrari's, Lambo's, and Porche's as these invincible supercars....who knows. ------------------ Dustin 90 Saleen yup, got her back!! 89 GT (Saleen clone)392 rwhp UNTUNED(TFS Intake, spacer,Heads and #2 cam, BD-11A 9#(only boosting 6???WTF),1.6 rr's,BBK 70mm TB,FMS 70mm MAF,MSD 6BTM,FMS 9mm wires,BBK longtubes and H-Pipe,American Thunder cat back,3.55 lots more... 12.564@118.49 on street tires is my best so far. 1BAD89 that number sounds right. Diablos barely run in the 12's. You have to remember that they are geared to run 180+ mph, so their 1/4 mile speeds suck. Same thing with Ferrari. Try racing one 100 and above and their power and aerodynamics come alive, which is what they are built for. Supercars are nice if you're on the autobahn, but I'd never own one.

Here are some facts. 1989 Countach 25th ann. Base Price: $145,000 (now if options add 105k, then so be it) HP: 455 (which should give it good 1/4 times, but with bad top speed gearing it won't) 0-60: 5.0, but I have seen mid 4's. Word of advice...before you go off flaming somebody who had no intention of starting anything, double check your sources before you make a a$$ out of yourself. You think you are so bad from all of your posts...I will be in Tulsa in a couple of weeks, or I might even have to come up there sooner, we can see how bad you really are, or you could just come down here, or are you just bad behind the computer?. Also, who knows what mods the Lamb Blue was talking about had...all I was referring to was a stock Lamborghini $hithead. http://www.fantasycars.com/derek/list.html http://web.missouri.edu/~apcb20/times.html ------------------ Dustin 90 Saleen yup, got her back!! 89 GT (Saleen clone)392 rwhp UNTUNED(TFS Intake, spacer,Heads and #2 cam, BD-11A 9#(only boosting 6???WTF),1.6 rr's,BBK 70mm TB,FMS 70mm MAF,MSD 6BTM,FMS 9mm wires,BBK longtubes and H-Pipe,American Thunder cat back,3.55 lots more... 12.564@118.49 on street tires is my best so far. The special edition Lamborghini was the 5000sp, which had a significant hp advantage over the other Countach's.
The Ferrari 308GTS made 240hp from 1975-1980. From late 1980-1981 it made 205hp, and when the Quattrovalvole came out in 1982, it was worked back up to 240hp. All that in a car that weighs about as much as an Fox Mustang. Perhaps you'd like to test your knowledge on the Testarossa? It's about even with a new LS1 SS. 0-60 5.3sec, quarter mile in the low 13s. The new Lamborghini Diablo VT should run 12's in the quarter. I don't think people are real good as grasping how much these cars really weigh. We're talking 4000lb curb weight on that thing. It's like a suped up Mitsu 3000GT VR4. Running some of the exotics in the 1/4 mile isn't some impossible task, but running them at 120 is suicide. The Testarossa can hit more than 180, the Countach around 180 as well. There was a special edition, modded Countach that was reported to do 200mph, but it's mostly an old wives tale. The fastest production car in the WORLD, EVER was the Jaguar XJ 220 in the early 90's. It did 212mph. They were hoping to get 220 out of it, they just had problems doing so. The current F50 can't even hit 200. They say it does, but upper 190's is what all the testers have stated for max velocity. Of course, the McLaren F1 is the current king, something like 235-240, whatever, never see it anyway. I had a poster of the 5000sp when I was a kid. I think it was rated at about 600hp. For a long time I thought that they all had this much.

You may have seen the SP, but chances are no....extremely rare. I would prolly jizz my pants seeing a old countach. I say you are an extremely lucky bro. Like I said, I wasn't tryin to start anything, but when some punk comes on here blowin hot air, I tend to get frusterated....just ask Unit...we've been round and round before. Unit, I love ya buddy, I hope your post was in my defense. LOL

My boss bought one of the first 50 Ferrari F-40s back in 1987. Had it imported as a "modified Testarossa" in 1988. In 89 he blew the turbos and had the motor rebuilt to IMSA specs. Bigger turbos, bigger HP, BIGGER everything. After he got it back, he and a co-worker of mine decided to race. I was in the co-workers Callaway Corvette (twin turbo). They both had a great launch, and the F-40 just screamed away. The F-40 immediately pulled in front of us as he got ahead so we were looking square at the back of his car. The F-40 just left us. We accelerated to about 130, my boss said he was at 180 before he backed off. It was a hell of an experience.

I got your back SaleenGTS More than that, I LOVE Ferrari's.
Just because in stock form some of the Ferrari's aren't 1/4 mile monster's doesn't mean they won't slaughter a stang on a road course! The F40 was rated at 470hp, with the originals rolling off the line at about 2420lbs. They were in the spirits of the true old Ferrari's. Bare bones, bascially steet legal race cars. The F40 is almost unstreetable, turbos kick in about 6000rpm on the V-8. Seems strange that the turbo's went out, supposedly the F40 is one of the more reliable Ferrari's. Anyway, with a power to weight ratio of about 5.14:1 and a Viper GTS coming in at 7.3:1, you can tell the Ferrari means business. The Calloway Vette was probably pushing about 3300lbs. That means to equal the power to weight ratio of the STOCK F40 it would need about 640hp. |

My friends father has the very last Testerossa to roll off the assembly line. I think it is a 93 but I am not sure on that. Anyways I drove the thing and it was incredible and weird at the same time. The gated shifter is such a pain and the clutch was so hard to push my leg was sore at the end of the night, but the engine roar and the power were awsome. Well anyway just my two cents, I was just expecting a little more refinement for such an expensive car but at least I can say I drove a ferrari .
