I can't take much more of this...
Pulled up to a light next to a 3000 GT, me in the '93. Light turns green, we hit it, I had him through 1st, by the time I hit 3rd he had 1-2 car lengths on me. Wife is enjoying my frustration too much. Getting that engine out of the '86 is becoming more of a priority.
What do those 3000 GT's run anyway? ------------------ 86 GT, CCM long block, GT40P heads, Crane 2031, 1.7 RR's, Cobra intake, 65mm TB, 73mm Vortech, 24# injectors, MAC GT40P headers, 2-1/2" BBK H-pipe (w/cats), Flowmasters, 3.55s, Groundpounder subs and lower control arms, 277 RWHP. 93 GT - Moroso cold air, 3.55 gears, ?? shifter, Black Magic fan, soon to get the engine and other goodies from the 86 |

Which car were you driving when this happened? Also, which 3000 GT? Was it a VR-4 or what ever the the turbo'ed ones are called?

Oops, sorry, you said the '93. Just 3.55 and cold air. Would expect it to be close. 14's somewhere?

The SL is a V6 with 222hp, and the VR4 is a 300 or 320 hp twin turbo V6 with AWD.

I didn't notice whether it was an SL or a VR4. I wasn't really looking for a race, just on my way to the movies. He didn't really seem like the type to race either, but when he looked like he was going to go for it, so did I.
I'll have the engine swapped by the end of June. By the way, if anyone's looking for parts off an 86 'vert, let me know. |

Drop in the "other" motor and spray it. I ran into a twin turbo 3000 GT AWD one night and he ripped my head off (12 sec car at the time). He must of had bigger turbos on it because you could hear it spool up as he went by like I as in reverse. Maybe you should shop around for a 351 and spray it!

If it was an SL you would have Whooped it's @ss, it had to have been a VR4. I've driven both and it's a night and day experience, plus those things are heavy and beating a lighter more torquey V8 and having front wheel driving to top it off would mean it wouldn't have even been close. The VR4 on the other hand is pretty crazy fast on the street.

I don't know...he said he had it through first gear....and as you should well know, a decent 4wd launch would have taken him at least by a car with his mods off the line if not more......

And it could be that the guy waited til I went to jump on it and I never would have had a chance if we'd both gone at the same time.
I'm just looking forward to getting the engine swapped. It comes out the first weekend in June, A week or two to get it painted and anything else I need to do while it's out and I hope to have it in and running by the end of June. I've got a FMS HD clutch with 15,000 miles in it now - should I go with a stronger one while it's apart? Also should I change the PAW generic hi flow oil pump or is that one good enough? |
