Nope. You will be looking at the back of his car from start to finish. He will jump big on you off the line, and you will start to reel him in some, but you will still be behind....that is unless you are a really good driver and he is a $hitty one.

Stock VR4s run high 13s-low 14s stock. They can be a pain on the street just because of the AWD launch...

Question

Do non VR-4's also have the DOHC motor? I ran a Dodge Stealth DOHC from a stop to about 75 and he never got past me...
I saw the DOHC sticker in the window when he lined up, I had a great launch and I never saw his tail lights
I was in the '88 LX in that race.

Dude, the Stealth/3000GT turbo AWD is a low-mid 13 car without a doubt (stock).

I ran one with my 2000GT Stang on the high way, he had an edge from 60MPH+, I can imagine he would also gain with an AWD launches ... used to own a AWD TALON TSI, and I would get 1.7 60ft with stock tires....

Ty'Cobra, i'm sorry to say I've killed quite a few 95-97 Cobras with my car, and there is no way I could beat that Turbo Stealth, ...there is no way... unless the driver is really FLUFFY (like big time)!

i've pulled one no problem from a roll. from a stop it might be a differant story ithink i would of had to play catch up for atleast one gear. gotta love that awd launch!
i say race him from a roll, so he loses the advantage of the awd.

Gonzo, must say I love your car! Drove one just like yours at the track and got a 13.19... what time do you get?

Look at my signature, the Mustang against LS1 thing... Probably looks just like yours!

Stock no. Is it hard to make a lot more? No. Boost controller, down pipe, a few other things and your cooking, as long as your tranny holds up (Makes the T45 look good...). But stock it weighs almost 2 tons (w/o the driver) and has 320 hp (new ones). Most of them trap somewhere around 99-100 stock.

I've raced quite a few of them. Back with just gears it always went:

They kill me on the launch (besides one apparent moron)...
About 50-60 I start closing...
About 70-80 I start catching and/or passing them...
90+ I'm usually ahead... Usually...

They're fast cars and usually make for an interesting race (get behind, come back, then...?), but stock they ain't THAT fast.

And you know he was stock how? A large percentage of the people who bother to shell out the $$$ for a VR4, also tend to modify them.

I don't doubt you have with a 13.7 1/4 mile. Maybe you should try some more VR4/Stealths... Stock on stock you should kill them from a roll. From a stand still you should catach them if the race is long enough...

Anyway, interesting grouping of the 95-97 Cobras... I'll mail you a buck if you can give me a good reason for it...

What mods have you done to your 2000 GT??? The Cobra makes 305 HP (Stock) vs the 260 HP (Stock) of the 2000 GT.

Also, the '95 - 96 Cobras had less horsepower...

I'm not calling BS to your Cobra kills, just want some more info about your car...

Actually, I think the 94-95 Cobras had less HP, 240 to be exact. The 96-98's had 305, but they are a bit heavier than the new GT's and they are horribly undergeared from the factory. If Lizard King (who is apparantly a great driver) met up with a bone stock Cobra, he could take it. Weight and driving ability are 2 big factors.

It depends on the options on the GT for weight. But you're right, the Cobra is HORRIBLY undergeared from the factory. Fortunantly that's easy enough to fix.

Ty'97Cobra, my 2000 GT is stock. I wish I could give you a better reason why a killed these cobras, ... I guess my usual street time of 13.8-13.9 is enough to clear them in my review mirror.

97Stang, I agree that racing a Stealth/3000GT VR4 would be fun as heck... but I can't find one that wants to come out and play.... DAMN!!!

Lizard King, I read in Hot Rod a few years back that sometimes cars can come off the same assembly line a little faster than others because maybe the T/B may have got an extra mm or so, or or an intake may have less burrs, wrong cams installed by accident,or wrong heads. You know like maybe someone mixed up the GT cam or intakes with the Cobra or something like that.
They said not every car runs EXACTLY like the next one. So you may have got a "good" car from the factory.
I remember in school I had a 1977 Pinto 2.3l automatic and that thing had no right at all to run as well as it did....it just did.
It was no race car but it beat or held it's own against many six cylinders.
