Default 02 Camaro SS goes 12.88@110 with exhaust!!

I didn't actually see this run but my buddy told me. He has a friend with a 02 Camaro SS 6-speed that is stock except for SLP exhaust. I saw the kid run about 3 months ago and he ran a 14.3 @ 103. At the time I didn't think anything of it. A month later, I saw him again and now he was running mid 13's @ 105. Well, I was talking to my buddy tonight and he told me the kid ran a 12.88 @ 110mph!!! This car only has the SLP exhaust and he removed his lid for the 12.88 run. It was dynoed and made 333rwhp!! I just thought I would pass the info on because I haven't heard of a LS1 trapping 110mph with his mods (or lack there of). Also, this same night, he supposedly ran a 13.1 with a 2.1 60' time.

I just don't know how he could be trapping 103-104 a few months ago and now he's suddenly trapping 109-110. I understand that the cool weather helps but come on!!! That's a big difference in mph. So what do you guys think? Even Evan Smith could only muster a 13.2 in a 02 SS.

i've never seen even close to that in my few trips to the track.......so do i believe it? *shrugs*

Well i go to the track very often, sometimes twice a week since it's like 5 mins away, but i have seen some trap 109 with light mods, matter of fact my friend has a 01 that has gone 13.0@ 109 with gutted cats, lid, and a4, on goodyear radials, weather was good and cool, it happens,.....

now bone stock off the showroom floor, i doubt they will run in the 12's, like most of us have seen also, some seem to run in the 14.0 103 area and cant go faster to save their lives .

Some of these guys are porting their own maf's, and of course you wont know it by looking under the hood, but it gives a healthy gain, almost as well as an aftermarket one would.

A cuttout can gain 2-4 mph on these cars, at least they must, because a quiet ls1 can trap 105, and a "stock" ls1 with a cuttout can go 109, hard to tell, noone tells the truth, wel...i do...

this does seem a little wierd, but not unbelieveable.
the ls1 m6 can take a little getting used to for some drivers before they can reach the full potential of the car. to really know if it was a change in his driving style you would have to see copies of his slips and talk to the actual driver.
yes stock ls1's hitting 12's has happened, although very rare.
i believe one of them was done in a magazine too, i'm sure someone on here should have a link to it.

We went over this a while back in Mod Madness...

Have I ever seen a bone stock LS1 go 12's? No...

Is it possible for a lightly modded LS1 on a cool day, in low altitude, with a good 60 foot dip into the 12's?
I would say its possible....

But I would say it would be inconsistent. (even 13s most runs...)
Its also due to 2 other things:
1. driver
2. There seems to be a large variance between the performance #s of LS1s, even off the show room floor. You might pick up a high 13 normal duty car, or a really strong mid 13 monster. A camaro buyer just doesn't know what he's gonna get...

Well once I put my injectors and fuel pump in, I'm gonna get a dynotune and custom chip, then go looking for this kid. I figure if I'm pushing 8 or 9 psi, I should be really close to a high 12 so it would be a good race.

Oh yea,
If he wants to race a slow early modular, I'll be happy to take him on if he's ever in Dallas. When it's over I'll just tell him that he's gonna have to go buy more mods...

Stang crazy, how do you like that novi1000? i bet if you put just a 200$ port job on those e7's you would see low 12's.

Well, I couldn't tell you how it is. When I finally got it on, I tightened the belt too much and my power steering pump said "C-YA"when I started teh car up I have a new one coming this week so hopefully this weekend I'll get to take it out and see how things are. I want to leave my heads, intake, and cam alone. I wanna see how fast it can go with stock untouched h/c/i.
