'00 Cobra R goes bye bye
It happened Friday on my way home from Columbia. I was going through Sumter and I see this gorgious 2000 Cobra R.
It was the first time that I have ever seen one in real life. He was going west and I was going east. I was drewling at the car when the guy passed. It was so loud that I heard it loud and clear all the way across the four lane road. As we passed I kept watching the car in my mirror still in aw. The guy slowed to make a left turn, and that was all I saw as I went around a turn myself. About 2-3 min later I looked in my mirror again and I see this fant red car charging hard. I really didn't think anything about it at first, but for some reason my heart started beating like crazy. Anywhere from 1-2 min after that I hear this amazingly loud rumble pull up beside me. I looked over and there was the Cobra R setting right beside me. The guy driving had this huge smile on his face. He jumped on it and pulled ahead a little (to let me know it was on), but slowed back beside me. The car was so loud when he jumped on it that it shook my whole car. I downshifted to 4th and looked back over at him. We both looked at each other then we jumped on it around 65mph. When we both jumped on it I was expecting more from the R but I really didn't see it. I pulled him about 4-5 car lengths from 65 to about 90. It was so cool I still can't believe that I ran a real R. The two sounds of our exh was so loud it was amazing. It feels good to be able to say that I have run an R. That guy though is probably pretty pi$$ed that I toasted him. Then again I guess that I would be pi$$ed too if I turned around and chased down a car just to race him and got smoked. Ahhhhhh I love my car. ------------------ 2000 Mustang GT |

Damn your a lucky guy! To see a type R then actually get to race him!! How many did they make 500 or so.. and all where sold before they where made going to people with connections.
I hope he knew enough to now what that sound from under your hood was. That is if he could hear your blower over his exhaust ------------------ SHP RACING www.SHPRACING.com Hang on for the ride of your life! |

Yeah it was crazy I'm still shaking I'm so stoked. I think they made like 300. It made me feel so good when I ran him I was so happy. As far as him being able to hear, I really don't see how he could hear. Geez he was beside me and my vision was bleared because it was soooooo loud.

Yeah after I got out of it and put it back in 6th for cruze mode he came roaring back up beside me. I looked over at him, and he was stareing (sp?) at me with one of those eat poo and die looks. I was going to give him a nod and thumbs up, but the guy was all pissed looking. As soon as I looked at him he jumped on the brakes and cut in behind me. He stayed on my Ars for a min and then turned off at the next red light.
So all in all the guy was a real D**k. I really can't blame him. I guess I would be pissed too if I had a 50+ grand car, turned around from the way I was going, chased somebody down, and then got smoked by them. ------------------ 2000 Mustang GT |

I hate it when people are like that. sounds like u beat him pretty good. did u think about stomping it again when he was behind you to prove the point again? Does ur car spin at that speed when u nail it?

I was in total disbelief when you came up with the punch line and said you killed him. Instant reaction was "Feck Off, there is no way in hell!" and I actually screamed "bullshit and laughed"!!! ... But then I looked at your profile and my jaw dropped on the floor. I had to go get the broom to pick up my teeth!!! YOUR CAR IS A SLEEPER MAN!
I mean with my reaction, I can just imagine how that poor bastard driving the king of all cars (my opinion ) felt betrayed. He must still be shaking his head!!!! Dude, by far, this is the best kill posted since I'm on this board! I hope to one day be able to post something half as good as that. ------------------ Lizard King, Bone Stock; 13.69 at 101MPH • Extreme Burnout •2000GT VS LS1 • Quartermile run •2000GT vs LX Stang |

All I can say is...
YOU DA MAN! If you don't mind my asking, how much do you have invested in your car compared to the MSRP of the R? |

Thanks guys I don't know what to say....I still can't believe that I have actually seen an R much less run one. It was the most amazing thing I have ever done.
EZRIDN to answer your question yes, I can smoke 1st-4th haven't tried 5th, and I think 6th is just asking too much . A couple of weeks after I put my blower on I was going down the interstate. I was in a pack of cars going between 80-85 and I desided that I wanted to see if I could beak them free. I downshifted from 6th to 4th and stomped it, and to my amazment it broke free and started spinning like crazy. I have rolled into it in 3rd going 45 and the rearend came around on me. All this is with dry roads, driving in the wet is ELL on wheels!! blue00gt ok let me see if I can get all these number straight....ok I got my car 12/27/99 and payed $21,something for it. Everything except for the traction control. I think a '00 Cobra R is $55-56, something. All off my mods I'm going to guess are somewhere around...umm...*thinking*.....yep still thinking......you guessed it still thinking......all this thinking is making my head hurt....I'm going to guess $20-25, something. So if ya add it up you get under $46 grand for my car, lets say $50,000 just for error sake. wow I've never though of how much I have in my car. I was looking through my user ride and I don't even have a lot of the things listed that I have done. And just think when I got my car I was debating spending $1,200 on a set of rims. Geez..... ------------------ 2000 Mustang GT |

Do you have any times or dyno numbers on your car? I saw an R run at the track and was not all too impressed with it's low 13 @ 109-110 numbers. That would be a kill at the top of the list though for sure!!!!

exgmguy I've run a best of 11.63@122.78 on radials at the track. I haven't gotten to a dyno yet I can't really get the time to do it.
Lizard King I don't think I could do the "Cobra R burner" thing. I think all Mustangs should win there race. Why run a fellow stang (unless they are asking for it) when you can pick on the rice and GM side of things. ------------------ 2000 Mustang GT [This message has been edited by white00GT (edited 05-07-2001).] |

Dude please don't refer to our Cobra's as "Type R's"... Unlike the Integras on your end of the spectrum, R actually means something when its on a Mustang.
