'99 Cobra
A friend of mine just picked up a used '99 Cobra recently. He came over to my place last night and of course car talk led to runnin' 'em. He just has a homemade ram air and K&N. He had it dyno'd the other day and it put 283hp to the rollers. At the track he has been averaging about 13.7@102 on street tires with a best of 13.3@104.
We each had a passenger with us and we rolled out to the local highway here because there are a couple of stoplights that you can catch with with miles of straightaway and no crossroads. We were never able to catch the light just right, so we went from a roll a couple of times. First time we went from about the middle of 2nd gear at 35mph or so. I got the jump on him slightly and heard him grind into 3rd, but it went into gear still. He dropped back by a car or so on the shift and I held him there until I shifted 4th. He started to creep on me at this point and finally passed me slowly at the top of 4th. I shifted into 5th but started to drop back fast so I shut it down right away because it doesn't pull much in 5th and I figured with his redline at 6500 he wouldn't have shift out of 4th. The next run we went from about a 55mph roll. The jump was pretty even and I stayed right with him until the top of 3rd where he had his rear bumper at my nose. He started to pull a little more in 4th and had about 2-3 carlengths by 135mph. We shut it down and went to lay low after that. I was pretty shocked that I hung that well with him racing from a roll. I think if I launch hard on him and get him out of the hole I could give him a good run for his money at the track.
