Default Why is my car slow???

I have a 1988 LX. It is an original 45,000 mile car.

Stuff it has:
93 cobra upper and lower intake
65 MM throttle body
70 MM MAF
24# injectors
stock heads
cobra computer
mac shorty headers
3.73 gears
pro 5.0 shifter
alu driveshaft
Tremec Z tranny
Boxed upper and lower control arms
Tociko Illumina 5 way adj
Timed at 14 degrees

My car runs a 14.20 in the quarter mile at 97.4MPH. I seem to get a good 60 ft time. They are usually 2.1. The car seems to lose power in the high end. I only picked up .2 in the quarter mile when I put the cobra kit on my car. My friend has the same work done to his car that I have done to mine. He has a 77MAF though. I dont think a 77MAF would make that much of a difference. He smokes my car. His car has 160,000 miles on it. Should I put an A9l computer in my car instead of the computer since I dont have the cobra heads?? I lose to pretty much stock mustangs too. Any suggestions???

im going out on a limb saying you eather did the mass air conversion or you have a cali car but you need to ditch the cobra cpu, from what i understand they eather take out spark or fuel at a some speed that i cant remember. other than that i would change to the gt 40 heads and 1.6 roller tip rockers. oh yeh, dont granny shift.

All I've ever run has been the A9L computer so I don't know about that but your STOCK HEADS are killing you.

The cobra computer pulls timing between shifts. Get an A9L, its a direct replacement.

I have also heard that about the Cobra computer.

After that you should definitely get some heads and a cam (I'm assuming you have the stock cam since it wasn't listed). Just to give you an idea of how restrictive the stock heads and cam are, I raced a notchback with a 6 psi centrifugal blower (otherwise completely stock motor) with my '00 GT with bolt-ons and gears and he beat me out of the hole by .25 on ET streets and I passed him at the 1/8th mile because he had no top end.

I totally agree. Go back to 19's and get a adjustable fuel pressure regulator and a gauge. Now I dont have a adjustable fuel pressure regulator, but I do have the RPM Extender and I gained 10 horses to the wheels by leaning out the mixture. Stangs run rich from the factory. Tune that fuel and do what Workcar said. Hell he made it in the 12's with E7's. I run 14.1 on my car with it being stock with 1.7's and 3.55 gears on street tires. Also check your PM's.
