Question Am I out of my league???

Ok, here is the situation this guy i know, well actually he is my brother. He has a 81' camaro with a 406 sb turbo 400 tranny 3.73 gears, headers cam intake 750 carb he has been runnin a 14.39 @94mph. This weekend he is putting on some world products sportsman 2 heads so i dont know how fast his car will be after that. Anyways he is always talking crap about my car saying things such as 5.slow. Now I havent had my stang long and havent got to run it yet, I will be runnin it for the first time on may 5 at the test and tune. I have about one week to tune my car what can I do to kill this camaro. BTW the guy i bought my car from said that it ran a 14.5 and that was before my mac cold air fender kit, my headers , my clutch and nitto drag radials. So assuming I can drive what are my chances

With those mods, Id say youd run a 14.2-14.3. If he can run faster than that, then youre gonna lose. If he cant, I think you'll win.

It's in the bag. Granted you have a 'vert, and not alot of mods, but you did get the right ones to start with. Do you have a set of gears? If not, invest in them real soon. It's the best bang for the buck. Good luck and let us know what happens. Oh, and take pictures, we wanna see!

If you haven't done it yet, Bump your timing to 14 degrees and use 91+ octane gas. This will give you a little more low end and better throttle response. Also make sure that your throttle position voltage is set at ~.95 volts at idle. Oh, and listen to bigwhitecobra, the gears are probably the best way to spend your money, let us know how it goes.

Are you running him on the street or at the track? If you're running him on the street i'll say that you're gonna beat him pretty easy. Street racing is all about trap speed and his 94mph is pretty low... dont know what he will do after the heads though but I'd say you should be running about 97-98mph

I will be racing him at the track on may 5. No "big white cobra" I do not have gears yet but plan on going in with 4.10's real soon. How do I set the throttle position voltage? If I dont win it wont be from a lack of trying. I think if my nittos hold traction that will give me the edge cause with his new heads he will spin i think.

He has about 100 more cubes than you and what seems to be more mods and he's been running 14.39 I don't think he has the right to say 5.slow.

If you race him after the heads you will probably loose. Especailly if he does a cam also, which he should. But before, you should take him easy.

Think about it. The heads are the only thing holding that motor back right now. He already has the big cubes, then of course the cam, intake, carb, and gears. Those heads that he has on there now have to be the worst set of smog heads ever. That is going to be a different car w/ those heads. I have to say he will put some car lengths on you pretty easy.

I'm gonna have to agree, if he puts the heads on with all the bolts in there he's should smoke you.

Course, if he's got P185 tires on there maybe low 14's is the best he can do period. LOL

To set the TPS voltage you'll need a digital voltmeter, you tap the positive side of the meter into the red lead wire coming off the TPS and ground the negative side, then turn the ignition key to the on position. Loosen the screws and adjust it until it reads about .95 volts and tighten the screws again. I may have missed something, I own a carbed car and haven't done this check for a couple of years, come on fuel injected guys!Help him out!

Well I have excepted the fact that I will lose in the 1/4 mile. That is I will lose on May 5 but I will not lose after that cause I plan on doing some head porting and drop in a set of 4.10's if I still am getting waxed after that I will have to go with some giggle gas cause there is no way I am gonna let all the camaros here dust me. I am going for a low 14 second run just to prove to them that 5.slow is bs. It might take me a few months but 12 second runs are on the way. If I can run as fast as his camaro was running before these new heads I will consider it a personal victory and a testement to "FORD POWER".

Thumbs up

Go to a bank and get a loan and buy an intake and heads. Correction, rob the bank, buy the intake and heads and rip your brother a new one!
