Please tell me you live in Texas 5.0Killer.
I'll be happy to show you the rear end of a slow 4.6...

Heck, I've killed stock LT1s when I had my small Zex kit (75 shot)...

Long live the power of the 281!!

Get off the crack 5.0 Killer......obviously stock vs stock the 5.7 LT1/LS1 is faster than a 4.6 GT. But lets compare apples to apples....it starts off w/ 40+ more HP.

Results of the Race!!
---------------------

Well we met up and went out to the street to race. I stupidly pulled off in the dirt and got my tires dirty. I was running my stuipd bald 225/50 radials. I told him he could have the jump from about a 5mph roll and I would nail it after him.

We went he nailed it and hooked good, I nailed it and instantly spun bad, while he pulled another car on me. Z28 is about 2 cars ahead now. I am spinning like crazy in second and tryin to baby the gas to get traction. The Z is still pulling and Im about 3 cars behind now. I finally shift 3rd, being about 3.5-4 cars behind him, and I think I probably have lost. I powershifted 3rd hard and start pulling. I wind out 3rd and powershift 4th pulling up closer and closer on him. I get next to him and pull past him easily. We continue on to our set mark at the end and I win by about 2-2.5 cars lengths.

It was a damn good race and I would have won way easier if I had sticky tires. IM going to get a set of 245 or 255 drag radials as soon as I can for the street, because I am sick of almost loosing on street tires.

We talked afterwards, and hes gonna go to the track with us next time we go out. Its definatly a strong running car and I give it a lot of respect, I almost lost! Ive never fallen so far behind before!

Good race Sky!

Well I trtied to start my car last night using my spare distrubtor but it seems the pick=up has died in it, it gets spark from the coil but doesn't get any to the plugs. My other distrubtor has 3 broken teeth thanks to a weak gear and a high volume pump. So my dad to it to work to press that gear off and the new one on, should fire right up, god I can't wait. I'll post in the Windsor Forum. Have you made any decisions on your next mod, maybe a beefier rear? I think that would be a very good investment, especially if you are going to continue yto run slicks and launch hard.

hey rick, usually if the pick up goes bad you won't have a spark at all. your rotor may be groundinf out internally, so it's not letting the spark out of the cap. also it should throw a spark nearly an inch from the coil wire, if to weak it wont make it out of the cap as well. take it easy. good luck.

Way to go Skyman,

I was going to tell you that form his mods it should be a mid to low 13's car but I picked the post too late.

My car ran 13.69 at 103mph on street tires with 4.10's (6spd), K&N, Flowmaster Muffler and power pully.

With a 12.55, there wasn't much to worry about unless he sprayed you.

Sure the lt1s might be putting out more hp than stangs...but dont they also have bigger engines? I thought they had 350s....if they do, I would say that stangs hold up pretty good for having a smaller engine. I bet stangs with 351s (near same size) are a ton faster than lots of lt1s...correct me if im wrong.

Yeah an LT1 is a 350.

Hey what did you do to your lt1 to run that 13.6@103. I dont think this guy was near that fast. I want to figure out some more mods for him to get his car quicker, and he doesnt know much and neither do I. Consider it a stock LT1 with exhaust and gears basically.

Skyman,

I listed my main mods but there is plenty of free mods you can do also.

Bypass the Throtle body. Basically, the coolant goes through it to prevent fuel from freezing in the winter but in the summer it heats it up for nothing. You redirect the flow around it to bypass it. Good for maybe 1-3 HP in hot weather.

Remove the screen from the MAF (Mass Air Flow Sensor). It will give you about 150cfm's more I think, not sure on that.

Power pulleys are cheap but try to get the one with the ballancer included, the cheap ones, you have to stick the stock, heavy balancer on top of them!

160 degrees thermostat you can buy for aobut $20 and wire your fans to a switch for free. I ran 5 runs in a row at the track with this setup and the temperature never got over the 1/4 mark! I could've ran all day long.

The biggest gain you will ever get with a bolt on is nitrous, the second one on an LT1 is Long tube headers. If you want to open up that baby it's the way to go, it would've been my next mod for sure! Another benefit from getting them is to be able to change your spark plugs a LOT easyer.

Make sure the Optispark, wires and plugs are in good condition, these cars are very sensitive to a poor ignition.

I am sure I am forgetting some but these are good starter points to go from. Definitely worth a full second when all done together.

If you know a machinist, get your MAF ported, fairly easy to do.

Oh yeah, NEVER run slicks on a stock diff, you will blow it appart. GM pisses me off for putting sucha weak rear end in such a powerfull car!

Don't hesitate to ask more questions if you want.

descreening maf... TPIS book said 2Xcfm i do believe. Not much at all.

TB bypass.. done it.. cant hurt.

Pullys.. unless you can get a used set for ~$50, dont waste your $.

The 10bolt may be weak, but if the gears are setup properly, it'll take alot of abuse.. way more than one would think. Ppl with autos pull 1.4X 60's on them.. preload is wonderful. I launch my 6spd at 3800-4500rpm on slicks.. with 4.10's no less (thinner teeth), and have no problems. I dont expect it to last forever however

Boltons are nice... but the power is in the heads/cam ..... id save $ and go for the good stuff If he wants to stay n/a.... used n2o kit ~$300.. not too bad.

SkarodoM,

I don't agree with all you said. All those little mods add up together and in the end you may be looking at an extra 15 HP which can definitely win a race. You won't feel any buttometer difference but your timeslips will show a couple of tenths less.

As far as the screen on the MAF, it is a FREE mod and the F-Body FAQ listed a significant increase in CFM. If you have a Cold Air Intake, the main restriction on the intake flow is the MAF.

As far as the slicks are concerned, I had ordered a pair of Mickey Thompson's ET Streets the day before I crashed my car so I was going to risk it like you and run it until it breaks but I am not going to recommend anybody to do so. As Skyman said himself, him and his buddy don't know much about these cars so I made sure to underline the weakness of the 7.5" ring in the stock rear-end. Especially with the 4.10's.

Oh, another free mod I forgot is relocating the Air Temperature Sensor away from the Throtle body as it picks up false heat comming from it. If the Computer thinks the air comming in is warmer than it really is, it will retard the timing more than it needs to.

Cool

dude, i never said NOT to do the little things did i. The one thing i said was a waste was under drive pullys.

As far as the MAF screen, TPIS, who PROBABLY knows what theyre talkin about, said they got another 2Xcfm from it. Again, did i say not to do it?

I agree, you never said not to do it but your tone was that it is not worth it and that the pulleys are not worth it.

I think it is woth it. That's all I am saying, it is a matter of opinion more than anything else. At the very least, it is a great way to start learning about the car.

I am not attacking your credibility in any way, I am just sharing tips with another Camaro Lover. If you think I did, I apologise for comming across that way.

Oh yeah, I do agree with the NOS part!

Hey camaro guys, Have you done the 100 ohm resistor inline with the wiring going to the knock sensor to keep the computer from pulling timing between shifts? I've heard this one works but don't know exactly where to find the wire to tap into.
