Question Who here has raced 3RD Gen RX7's?

I have a friend who has a 93 RX7 twin turbo with a catback and down pipe, and some other small mods to the intake. He's ran a best of 14.0 or so @ 98 or 99mph. he along w/ other rx7 owners seem to beleive that these cars are almost unbeatable, especially from a highway roll. He raced a friends 95 cobra, when the cobra only had a catback and hpipe, and the cobra beat him 1 out of 2 races, and my friend used the excuse he wasnt seeing any boost.
I know they handle well, and are fairly fast from a roll since they are so light and have 255hp.
Ive also ran into a friend of his who had a down pipe, catback, computer, 12lbs of boost, and intake (possibly). We ran on the interstate when all I had was 3.73's, offroad hpipe, flowmaster mufflers, and pulleys and I hung w/ him from about 50-110 where I HAD to shift into 5th gear, then he pulled like crazy. He pulled a little on me from 50-110, but not much at all. Now the guy has an intercooler, some other intake, fuel system and possibly something else. He wants to run again and supossedly he thinks the car will go in the 11 second range in the 1/4. Shouldnt I be able to destroy him from a roll, and in the 1/4 mile now w/ my mods??

RX7's are overrated. Theyre awesome looking and great handling cars but they dont run as fast as people preach. He's not going to hit an 11 and as long as you can drive you should mop the floor with him.

Thumbs up

Paluka, you'll kick his @ss!!! The RX-7 ran 14.1 @ 100mph stock. Remember it's got sequential turbos. That means a small one for low end "torque" and a big one for high rpm horsepower. He's no match for your Cobra now. Just watch out for a larger intercooler and a hiss of nitrous!

Yeah I just talked to the idiot yesterday, and he believes that his Rx7 could have taken out most of the mustangs here in this town stock vs stock. Well in some cases that maybe true, however how many stock stangs are running around?
I think alot of the guys (RX7) race people who 1) cant drive 2) have nearly stock cars 3) exagerate.
This same guy who talks alot of smack about mustangs on the rx7 board www.rx7forum.com says he was actually thinking of buying a vert stang when he blew up the rx7 motor after 47k miles or so. I asked him about this, and he told me, well I was only going to buy a mustang for a beater car, since its 'only a mustang.' People like this give me a pain!

Kick his *** with your "only a stang" and see how he feels about that. I love guys with turbo this and nos that who cant wrap there heads around the fact that there only driving a 4 or 6 cyl. car!

Or.....in this case a zero cylinder car (aren't the 3rd gen. RX7's rotaries???). I still find it amazing that a car with like 80 something cubic inches can make over 200 horsepower stock.
