Talking going from v6 to v8

I finally thought about it and im gona sell my 00 v6 auto stang and im gona buy a used stang its a 96 auto gt. Well I wana know how much HP does it produce? I got tired of getting beaten on my v6 so thats why im selling it Ive had some good races on it.. and it kind of sucks cus its my first stang that I had and im gona get rid of it and get a 96 GT. another reason is because I like the body shape of that 96 GT and the newer cars like the 00 that I have well its not all that. Im gona fix it up. Once I get that 96 auto gt stang, am I gona win more on races? I mean like if a honda or cars like that pull next to me will I beat them with that car. I eventually plan to customise it.

A 96 auto GT will run a mid 15 in the 1/4 mile....If I were you I would buy a 94 or 95 stang of that same body style they are a overall better car if you ask me. and they run high 14's stock and are cheaper to mod.

If you do get that car get the heads and cams out of a 99+ stang and run low 14's.

Good luck

Thumbs up better

I would go with the 1996 b/c they are going to be faster than a 5.0 I had two friends who owned a 95 (5.0) and a 96 (4.6) and the 96 beat him bad every time.
But now take into consideration, are you going to mod it? If so I would go with the 5.0 The car will be cheaper and all the parts will be cheaper. Not to mention the 5.0 sounds MUCH better. And I think the 5.0 responds pretty good to any mod alittle better than a 4.6 SOHC. I think.

It takes a lot of money to really build up a 281. That's not to say it's a bad motor...it's signifigantly more advanced, and probably within ten years it will have a strong performance market. But for now, it's hard to beat a 5.0 for bang-for-your-buck.

As you have heard mods for a 4.6 is still quite costly.(look at mine )....but the prices are falling. The prices are getting closer to the cost of 5.0 mods and with the future of the ohc engine and the number of sales prices will continue to drop The 4.6 is fun to drive and makes alot of power without cam work.As you can see I opted for a new engine instead of just a head & intake upgrade, parts for these cars found at salvage yards are starting to pop-upAlot of companies have also made alot of body and interior kits for this model also. So I'd say get a good inspection and history of YOUR car and let the fun begin.

P.S. The 96 is rated at about 215 hp(comparable to the 94-95 5.0)

I've never heard of a 97-97 GT taking a 94-95 GT stock for stock with equal drivers. Typically the 5.0L in the 94-95 Cars runs stronger than the first generation 4.6L. However the difference is not so much as to remove driver skill from the equation.

The 96 GT's are nice cars. the 4.6L responds well to boost. Parts are more too.

The 94-95 GT's are great (I may be a little bias here ). Parts are cheaper because you have the support of the 5.0L engine and there are less electronic controls on the car. (easier to change timing, read trouble codes, etc).

Either way a Mustang GT is a great Base.

yes I do plan to mod the car But now that Ive heard all this so what do you really recomend me to get a 96 automatic GT or a 95 automatic GT? Because now that I know that a 95 5.0 is cheaper to mod than a 96 4.6 well I could go with that cuz I can aford more on cheaper parts. But lets say I put a couple of mods on the car wich will perform better the 95 gt or 96 gt? And wat is a good milage for a 95 gt or a 96 gt to have , because I dont wana be having problems with my car. and how much HP does a 95 gt have? Well guys thanks for all the info

I might as well ask this question since no one else has...but why are you so set on getting an automatic transmissioned GT? Manual trannied Mustangs stock for stock easily smoke the automatic ones. Although in traffic and such an automatic is nice, but it's not that hard to learn to drive a stickshift car well.

oh.....and if it's worth anything, if you want to modify the car for less money, then the 5.0L is the way to go, but if you'll have some money, the 4.6L is a very good engine and will eventually have as many if not more aftermarket support than the 5.0L does. Changing to later model heads, Bullitt intake/throttle body and a good 9 psi supercharger will get you TONS of power and shouldn't be all that expensive to purchase and install (well, at least in terms of getting all that power).

Good luck,

once again I would recomend the 95 GT, don't worry, because either way you'll be OK.

With less money in the car the 95 5.0L will be faster. The 4.6L engine is still a good engine, and if you want to go with a blower I'd probably recommend the 96 GT (if you had the money). But $ for $ the 95 GT will be faster.

If you're buying a used car, it's up to you to have the car inspected and looked over well. Buying any used car comes with some risk, that's the advantage to buying new! My 95 GT has around 70,000 miles on it and is still in really good shape. It has needed some tuning, but runs really well now.

I'd stay away from the automatic trannies. They are real dogs. Get a 5 speed and some 3.73 gears and you'll be able to compete with most street cars.

As far as the year, I'm biased to the 94-95 5.0 motors. Much better aftermarket support. Ricers could hang with a 96 automatic!

Default Gas

Here you go:

1995 GT 17/25
1996 GT 18/27

Like everybody else, get the stick. It is a lot of fun. After the first two days, you will feel like a pro. At least thats how long it took me to get use to my 96 Cobra. And that was my first stick. But do whatever feels comfortable for you.

Hey Milktasd, those 95 GT numbers are pretty dam close to what I was seeing witih my 2.73, except on the highway, with the A/C off and high octane fuel I was actually seeing closer to 30 MPG. And in town I was closer to 15 MPG.

I wonder how the 3.73's will change it....

Cool I know how to drive a 5 speed

I do know how to drive stick But I havent driven one in about 14 months since I got my 00 automatic stang, would it be hard for me to get back on it? 84LX89GT the reason why I want to buy an automatic GT is because ive hear some people say that wen you fix up a automatic that its beter than a stick and it will give you much better numbers. Also In mustang magazines I see all this gt's getting good times with some moods and mostly all of them are automatic. All of you are right Its risky buying a used car. Also a stick is more cheaper to buy cuz already Ive seen only two automatic cars a 95gt an a 96gt. and both of them are in the 70K and at the dealers they cost 9500 and 9800. But theirs so many stick 95 and 96 GTs and their a lil bit cheaper. The only reason why I was conserned on getting a automatic was becasue what I heard that an automatic is more presise on the shifts, and thats better on getting good times well thats wat I heard.

An auto is more consistant and easier to launch, and will give you better times...when you're running 9's or 10's.

Go with a 95 GT w/ a 5speed if you want to get good power and not spend to much.

If you plan on spending a lot and dont care, then get the 96gt and the auto.

The 5speed will be better down into the 11's.
