Talking First Race with 3.73's

Well since I got my 3.73's installed on Thursday I've been looking for a race. I've been hoping for an LT1 Camero or Firebird, 'cause I think it would be real close.

But no such luck. I was driving with my wife on Highway 66 and a Riced our Celica GT-S and a riced out Integra came up from behind me and passed, weeving in and out of traffic like typical ricer morons.

It just so happens that at the next light there was one lane open and the 3 of us lined up. I was in the far left lane, then the integra and the GT-S was in the far right lane.

I hadn't lauched with the 3.73's yet and my rear tires are getting a little low on tread, so I was a little nervous.

When the light went green . I stepped on it. Mistake! I spun bad. 3.73's are a little harder to launch. The car doesn't bog like it did with the 2.73's, but spins bad.

I was even with everyone until I got traction, hit second (chirped a little more) and gone. I pulled 5 or 6 cars on the integra and I could not see the GT-S because it was behind the Integra (geometically speaking I would assume it was 8-12 cars back) All the way up to about 90 mph.

I love these 3.73's. They are little steep for highway driving, but I can also see why some one would want 4.10's if they were at the track. I think the 3.73's are the all round BEST gear.

Anyway, even my wife was impressed

Great deal Cam! Glad to hear you love the new gears. It'll take a while to get used to driving it a bit, especially 1st gear, but a new set of tires would sure help.

Actually I like how the 3.73's drive around town. They are way better than 2.73's. I don't even know why Ford put them in anyway.

The Torque off the launch will take a bit to get used to though.

How's the weather up there in Sherwood Park. I heard it was near -30C. Here in Dallas, my Thermometer read 25C on Sunday

Glad you like the gears, but don't hate having to shift so often? It would be very interesting to see if you could beat an LT1. My buddy with a 95 GT with headers, chip, and 3.73 gears can only pull a 14.9 in the 1/4 (bald tires) with a 0-60 of 7.5 sec. I wonder if its just his car thats slow or just the weight of the 94-95 GT's.

I think the auto's did come with 3.08's. But mine is a 5 speed, and I have no doubt that they were 2.73's. In 5th gear I hit 2000 RPM around 75-80 MPH.

I have to get to the track and see what I run. But the car feels WAY faster now than it was before. Guess a track time will tell all, right. In my other post I almost had an LT1 Camero, but he sprayed me

I was thinking of putting 373's in as my next mod, but I drive a 70 mile round trip 3 to 4 times a week. At 70 mph what are your RPM's running at?

AT 70 MPH I'm around 2250-2500 RPM. I'll have to check again, I don't really drive too many places that I can legally get going that fast.

Well I was doing 70 in a 40 zone so I was also looking for cops . But my tach reads around 2300 RPM at 70 MPH. I do have a stock tach and I don't know how accurate it is but that is what it reads. I also have 17" rims with 245/45 tires.
