Grand Prix GT vs. Celica GTS
The race is lined up for this Friday night at the local track and I wanted to get some thoughts on who will win.
First, some quick background: The Grand Prix GT is a 2000 with the 3800 V6. Mods include no catalytic converter, SLP exhaust, home-made cold air intake and I think that's it. The guy driving this car is a good fried of mine who has alot of experience at the track. With only the CAI, he has gone as quick as 15.18 @ 87.xx, but usually runs in the 15.40 range in hot & humid weather. It should be much less humid and cool this Friday evening. The GTS is a 6 speed (I believe) with no mods and the driver has NEVER been to the track. However, the GT is going to let the GTS have a couple practice runs before they go head to head. So who do you think will win and why? There has been major trash talk on both sides so either way it will be fun to watch. NOTE: Sorry to post this boring topic, but my Stang is currently out of commission until probably Saturday - that's when the new flywheel, clutch and Tremec get installed! WOO HOO! Thanks, E ------------------ 1991 5.0 LX Coupe - 38,000 miles 13.17 @ 106.14 mph w/ 2.138 60' |

Assuming that your buddy doesn't miss a shift or something, I would have to say that the Grand Prix would take this one.
Those GTS are quick for an import (read: <16 second cars), but I don't think a new driver would take an experienced one when the cars are that close. It'll be cool to find out who wins! Keep us posted! ------------------ 1995 Mustang GT |

I will definately let you guys know how it turns out. It should be a pretty good race. cilvrwing - how difficult/easy is it to launch the 6 spd. GTS? E ------------------ 1991 5.0 LX Coupe - 38,000 miles 13.17 @ 106.14 mph w/ 2.138 60' |

The GTS is the quicker car on paper(high 14's-low 15's), but it is much more difficult to drive fast. Due to the GTS driver's inexperiance, I'd give the nod to the GP. I'm also a little biased since the GP is the same as my car minus the supercharger.
95mustanggt, it's pretty hard to miss a shift in a GP...they're all automatics. In my GS, I just put it in second, and can run the whole 1/4 before shifting to third. ------------------ Take Care, Dave 95 Mustang GT Convertible - SOLD 2000 Buick Regal GS (240hp) 1967 Electra 225 convertible (360hp) |

I'd bet on the Grand Prix. I think the Celica is a low 15 car on a good day and your friend has added some mods that should get him there for sure.

Wish we could get Special K's civic in on this and cilverwing too. Then who knows who the winner would be. (serious).

Thanks for the replies!
You guys should hear the trash talk! These guys are really giving it to each other (friendly, but serious at the same time). I personally think it is going to be a very close race, but the guy in GTS thinks he going to "smoke" the GT. BTW - I quoted the GT's mph wrong --> his best run was a 15.18 @ 88.97. I will keep you guys posted on the race! E ------------------ 1991 5.0 LX Coupe - 38,000 miles 13.17 @ 106.14 mph w/ 2.138 60' |

You need to ride in a 12 or low 13 second car to know what pulls like crazy means. ------------------ 1995 Mustang GT |

Well, when the VCT (variable camshaft timing) in my Escort ZX2 kicks in, you all better watch out!
Just a little fun - no flames intended. Take it easy, E [This message has been edited by 302 LX Eric (edited 09-21-2001).] |

What about that 12.4 second dodge van? That thing is crazy! 4-bangers can pull harder than we'd all like to admitt
