96 Cobra vs 99 GT
I just lined up with a red 99GT at a light on the way home from a bar in Allentown. There were two guys in the car and they pulled up next to me and my girlfriend on my driver's side. We said our hellos and gave the typical compliments on each other's cars and The driver said let's go. I looked at my girl and said, "I have to" she said, you better not lose. I felt confident from the beer but I haven't had a stoplight race in awhile.. We both got decent launches and took off even in first to about 30 and then I got about a car and half lead before hitting 2nd. It was all over from there as we separated from the GT by about 4-5 cars by 3rd gear and then I shut it down when I realized how stupid it was for me to be speeding at this time of night. They pulled up behind me and gave me the high beams and I hit the brakes in return. I would assume this car was a stock 5sp. ------------------ formerly 96cobra89lx306 (96Cobra/softtop-3.73,almdrvsht,fancontrl,steeda sbfrmes+shifter,eibachspgs,KYB's,FR-upper arms,Saleen copy-polished 18's,pulleys,Bassani X pipe(gutted),C&L 80mm Cobra DYNO 301rwhp horsepower before gutting the X pipe 93 Ford Probe Gt(slower but turns) [This message has been edited by 96SNAKE (edited 06-03-2001).] |

Sounds like a nice easy kill, so when are you going to do more mods to the cobra, you haven't done much to it lately have you?

I guess ya gotta burn some rubber at the stoplight every now and then. Kinda like stroking your car's ego. Good run. |

Sedanman,
No, I haven't done any mods to the car for what seems like forever. There isn't a whole lot more I can do without tearing into the engine and that will probably be the plan if I don't sell it. There are new intakes for the Cobra but they are just too damn expensive and I'm not convinced they are worth it. If I decide to keep the Cobra, future plans include taking the 4.6 to 5.2 liters, a chip, and adding an aluminum flywheel to help it rev faster through the gears. |
