Red face LS1 Z28 and a broken T-5.

My trans started getting a little noisy after my last race that I posted and it gets worse....

I was coming home from band practice last night when a new orange Z28 pulls along side with his R's up. I slow down and drop into 3rd around 3500 rpm. I let him take the jump and floor it. I am creeping on him until my rev's hit around 4500-5000 where I really start to pull I let off after the top of 3rd with about a 1.5-2 car lead.

Well this guy wants to go again! So I slow down and crack the bottle to lay real waste to him. He takes the jump again and a second after I floor it..... CRRAAAACCCCZZZXXXQQSSS!!!SNAP CRACKLE GRIND! 3rd gear is gone! He is next to me revving his motor while I am coasting with my trans making some ungodly nasty noises. I limped home to the sounds of broken gears and the smell of leaking trans fluid from the cracked case.

I'll be out of commission again for a couple of weeks.

Nice run...I'd say it's about time to upgrade to a Tremec. Are you going to rebuild the T-5 again?

Man that sux, tonight at the track i saw some guy in a 95 vert with e.t. srteets, break 3rd, it was making a nasty noise, but i feel for him, cuz i know my whiney As$ t-5 is just barely making it.

Thats a good trap speed, on a blower or nos, or both?

Sorry to hear about your broken T5. I read an article somewhere recently about the new TK0-2. It is supposed to have a much stronger 3rd gear than the original TKO's. Maybe worth a shot?

The 122 trap speed was on a 100 hp dry shot.
I just put in another T-5 after work today. Thanks to Red514lx for providing the spare.
It shifts great now!!!!

can you ask Red514LX to hook me up with a trans? Now that I'm using ET streets I'm nervous every time i launch or shift to third.

Rob,

I hope you get a lot of miles out of that T5. Remember though, T5s were designed to run in cars trapping 98mph -- not 122mph

Dashapht, I'm fresh out of T5s hehehe. I do have a stock bellhousing for the T5 for $25 though.
