Angry Track times - not impressed(long post)

ok went to the track after I finally got my car out of winter storage and the new mods listed below.
We got to the track(london) at 12;30pm, it was fairly hot and the car was also hot (2 hr drive).
I immediately did a shake down run, shifting at 4000rpm and letting 4th gear go to the end of the 1/4 mile. results:
60' 2.4
1/8 9.8
mph 74
1/4 14.9
mpg 100.66
not bad i thought. so i let it cool for 45min and tried an almost all out run, shift light at 5500rpm. Now it was really hot out 90deg plus but thier was traction. Car was still hot:
60' 1.96
1/8 8.6
mph 84
1/4 13.3
mph 106mph
I was pissed, added 10mph to eigth mile and it did not show up on the 1/4. whats up with that. My friends on the bikes were loosing serious mph on the top end also (about 7mph) due to the air but seriously what is wrong with my car?? Set FPR at 35psi and the car felt strong on the highway going to the track.
more tuning i guess.

My first guess is that your TFS Stage 3 heads are a bit much for a little 306. What are your flow numbers on the heads? I have TFS TW heads ported out that are flowing 272 intake and 206 exhaust at .500 lift and 28" of H20. My heads are a bit much for my little N/A 302 (65 cc chambers = 9.0:1 comp.) ....however, I had them ported that much (especially on the exhaust side) as I am planning on adding an ATI ProCharger. If I were going to keep an N/A setup, I wouldn't have had the heads ported so much and I would have stepped up my comp. ratio.

As you can see by my sig. I am running 13.1-13.2 @ 106mph so I wouldn't get too upset with your ET's. Plus you were in some really high temps.

With better conditions I think you could easily see 108+ mph.

I agree, the engine is set up and built for a blower. Still i expected 110mph. Maybe in cooler weather with proper cooldown inbetween runs.
Next year I'm either getting a power adder or selling for a N/A set-up.

Those numbers aren't bad. You gotta get that car to hook. You have about the same MPH as me, but I run .75 faster than you. The cars gonna always be hot, but theres another 1.5-2mph in it with cool weather. Not to mention have you done any tuning? And what are those cam specs?

Have you tried shifting at say 6100rpm's? I'll bet that with that much airflow on the heads and ported intake you're gonna make peak power at more than 5500 rpm's. You need some serious RPM's to take advantage of that, especially on a 306.

Hey Mike, sorry I couldn't make it out to the track last Sat. I decided to install my D&D K-member & coil overs instead.

When I used to run the 12.5's @ 110 (before the blower & with the ported stock heads etc), that was with icing the intake, skinnies up front etc, etc. Sometimes it takes all of those little tricks to get you where you want to be.

Did you try adjusting your timing at the track at all? Fresh set of plugs, etc?

Hey Ray, yeah too bad you couldn't make it. Hopefully we can get together on a cruise night. My goal is to run it as fast at the track as the street, so no skinnies etc.
Sky, I havn't tuned it yet, really it needs some dyno time and tuning. The plugs were changed last year, didn't have time to change b4 the track (new roter, cap, wires etc). I only got 3 runs in and left the fuel pressure at 35-38psi.
Cam specs are(i think) 270/270 .544 .555 @.5 so i dont think shifting any higher will net better times with a low comp. motor.

Hey, I got the answer for ya! Just start running skinnies, etc on the street! (j/k)

BTW, I'll probably be racing at Cayuga this Sat at the OSCA race in the True Street class.

Your Mph is good. You should dip half way into the twelve second zone with that MPH. Since your heads are so hogged out, you need to take advantage of that. I'd get 4:10 gears, 26x10.5 slicks, and side step that clutch at 5000RPMS on the starting line. Your combo looks like a good blower candidate!!

Didn't realise your cam was that tight, heck, that'd be a good turbo cam, I'd go turbo rather than a centrifugal blower.
