Post WS6 vs. Smokedawg

I dont know if I need to be worried or not. My buddy just bought a 2001 or 2002 Red WS-6 trans-am 6 speed. We are going to Muncie Raceway Wednesday to race. I feel my car is running pretty strong. What kind of horsepower are those ws-6's putting out compared to my 347 w/all my mods. What do they run stock (as his will be). I have never raced before on a track, what kind of times should I be looking to run and is there any tricks I should know about launching?? Thanks

I've seen those WS-6's put down 300-305 rwhp(the LS6 ones) With your heads, Intake, and Cam, I think you should be running around 310-320 rwhp. Your heads, cam and Intake aren't allowing your 347 to breathe to it's full potential. I'd say that a 302 with ported GT-40's and Stock Intakes, and that B cam they put out max 280 rwhp. My car with just TFS Heads, cam and Intake made 286 rwhp, and they say guesstimate 1 hp per xtra cube. So say you are making 280 rwhp, 83% of 45 is 37 rwhp....so maybe 317 rwhp?? Just a guess though. You should take him though.

I ran myself out of money so now I am on a limited budget for buying parts. Which should I buy first, heads or intake. I would think a intake..

Hey smokedawg, has your friend ever raced at a track.

You had better bet him best two out of three or something if he has.

Racing at the track and on the street is two entirely different ball games.

If you are both going to the track for the first time, I think the best driver will win cause it takes a few runs to reach your cars potential.

My firt time at the track on my first run I ran a 16 flat cause I tried to launch at too high of an rpm and spun really bad.

Dont try any high rpm launches till you get used to it. If I were you I would try to launch at about 2500-3000rpms my first run and see how that feels.

The 60ft is everything at the track a good 60ft equals good ET's get your launch down and I think you will smoke the guy.

I think your car is capable of a 12.5-13.1 in the quarter @110-115mph. You should wax this guys *** . Good luck

I think 115 is too high for his limited breathing...that is 360-370 rwhp territory. But like 5.0 said...go to the track.

Go ahead and get tha Intake, since you already have decent heads.

He has been to the track but he was driving a auto at that time. He has never had a manual at the track

i heard those ws6's are a bare to launch, so that may help. they typically run mid to low 13's depending on the driver. i think you both are going to be begging for traction from your torquey motors. if your both on street tires it'll come down to driver and launch. i think you'll win though good luck and tell us the results!

Its gonna come down to traction. His car is a ***** to launch and he wont hit 13's untill he can launch it. You will beat him dont worry. But dont forget to post your times when you get back, Im interested to see how your combo runs.

Good luck..

Are the 2 of you planning on running streets? Either way, I'd have to say you'll take him. You should be in mid 12's and he (stock) will be lucky to hit low to mid 13's. Launch at 2500, no higher, unless you're goig on slicks. Remember tat tractions the key here. Good luck!

post these results, id say you would smoke em, i want a 331 and b-cam, and some edelbrock heads, so i can hand those ls1's their aass on the topend , at my current (stock) combo im spankin those ls1's off the line, they pass me around 80, but i can drive the S#@t outta my car, hitting a 1.9 60' took a perfect launch....good luck

But to asnwer the question about the "worry", id worry, cuz anything with 300rwh can be fast with a skilled driver.

Well he backed out of racing this wednesday cause his car only has 200 miles on it..So he said give it a week or two. He gave me a ride in it and right when he shifts into 2 it seems to set you back just for a second then seems to pull slowly..same thing into 3rd..i was really dissappointed at this car for having this kind of power for 31,000...
We will both be runnin street tires..I will be running 245's and his are 275's..He seems to be pretty good at shifting..One flaw that is pissing me off in my setup is that about the time my cam really kicks in good my intake kills my power..i dont know..new intake coming withing the next month..i think i will go with the edelbrock instead of trickflow..

My TF Track heat intake works really nice w/ my E303 cam.....I have gobs of mid-high range power. The only problem I' having now is w/ the low end. But, I'll be blowing next year. Should I go w/ 3.73's or is that overkill w/ a s/c?

In this case you are at an advantage. The first time I ran my car at the track the best I could do on it was a 14.3 :embarrased:

It was a beeyatch and a half to launch...There was a guy there with a 98 Z28 (same engine and tranny) who I let run my car that day just to check it's potential and he got a 13.59@104 out of it so that shows you how much you have to practice to launch these mofos....anyway...if he hasn't practiced alot and if he's an average driver you should spank him...

The best times I've seen come out of LS1.com and Camaroz28.com from bone stock 1k on the odometer 2001 LS1s have been 12.90s@107. But if you think you're going to wring that from a bone stock LS1...good luck...I think about the only people that can do that own their own drag-racing schools

Good Luck
Mike

There is no such thing as an LS6 F-Body.You can put LS6 parts in an LS1 engine but the LS6 is for the Vet.As for HP they are from 310 rwhp up to 330rwhp stock with lid and cutout and other free mods. That can translate to 375 to 390 hp at the crank.
