My 302 vs. WS6 on freeway
I have an 87 GT ragtop with heads, cam, intake, and all he rest of the stuff to go along with the setup. Anyways, I am on my way home from school last night and up ahead I see a black WS6 T/A cruising along. I pull up right next to him, he looks over and gives me a $hitty grin and just keeps cruising. I don't get a lot of races, so I was ready to have some LS1 for dinner. I dropped my car down into 3rd going about 60mph and then I think that caught his attention. Next thing I know he floors it and at this time I'm ready to gun it too. So we both take off about even and he had never pulled on me the whole way up to about 95. At the end, I had about a car on him and this is when we both shut down. As he drives by he doesn't look over at all and just kept on cruisin to continue on his way. It was an alright race but I want to get a 150 shot of juice so I can really smoke these LS1 owners.

Nice run. Most of those guys are up in the clouds so high they don't think any ragtop 5.0 could beat them. Especially on the freeway.

Awesome kill. Yeah, from what you read on ls1.com, no heads/cam/intake 5.0 can hang with an LS1. To give those guys credit, though, most of their cars are modded with all the bolt-ons and so they really can trap 108+mph that we keep hearing about.
This guy must have had a bone stock LS1 but a kill is a kill. I bet he NEVER expected you to pull on him from a 60mph roll. I wish I could have seen his face. ------------------ Jeff Kane 1990 LX Mustang Coupe |

Jeff is right man, "a kill IS a kill" but not all LS1 owners are a$$holes. Just like not all stang owners are either.
Unless the guy was a total A$$ I would never just pass by without at least a thumbs-up or something like that. But then again I've had plenty of stangs I've smoked do the ricer flyby well enough to made me think that their second car was a lowered Honda. What kind of a race is that? 60 to 95 mph? Doesn't sound like a race to me.

You are easily convinced then. I've had cars pull me 8 lengths in the first 1/8 mile and beat them by 8 lengths by the end of the 1/4.

Maybe they just shut down after beating you by 8 lenghts, I know I would.
A race is a race, in 35mph, on a roll if you loose you loose. cheers |

if a car pulls you by 8 lenghts at half track, then you beat it by 8 lenghts at the quater, I would not be bragging about it. Looks like you have too much horsepower, and not enough driving skill.
A contest of speed, is a race... Definately, your GTO has way too much unusable HP and way to little torque, if you are that far behind at te 1/8 and then that way ahead in a 1/4 mile race. Or you've got a great sense of humor which is a positive thing .......you sure you didn't change your username from Hungry4GMS?

1965 GTO, If I raced you from a roll, you would be probably from 60 to 64 mph, and I would be too far ahead of you to even read my plate.
A beatin' is a beatin'. Especially from a roll where traction and a lot of driving skill is taken out of the equation. Troll. |

If you are racing someone you make it clear what the race is before you do it. The race I was talking about was in 1982 when I was stationed at Hill Air force base, Utah. We were racing for 1/4 mile from a dead stop a true drag race. He had a 68 chevelle with a smallblock and 2-4bbls. on a tunnel ram and his car hooked up well, was also probably geared more for the 1/8 mile. I was driving my 70 chevelle with a 468. I haven't owned a 65 GTO since 1980. The GTO would probably stayed close to the 68 until the eighth and then slowly pulled away, The 70 chevelle blew by like he was sitting still when I went by in 4th gear. HP to Weight equals acceleration if you got traction but then aerodynamic drag takes over at high speed and the bigger horsepower car will pull away.
