Post Famoso results

I guess for my first time out these aren't too bad. Too bad you guys couldn't make it - I probably could have used some advice. I got 6 runs in, mostly 2.2 60 ft times. I need to work on my speed shifting and my reaction time was all over the place. I did beat Brett in his 99 Firebird 5 out of the 6 times - he was having all kinds of problems hooking up. My best run was 13.817 at 102 MPH on Yokohamas. Will subframe connectors help at all? How much do you think drag radials would help? I'm not sure I want to put those on until I weld up the torque boxes though.

Drag radials/subframes would help alot. I think (someone may correct me) subframes even help in saving the torque boxes because of transfering the energy to the front of the car. I have 275/50/15 BFG drag radials and pulled a 2.0 60' spinning them all the way through first. I've only had 3 passes in my car, and they were done on a brand new starting line (more slippery than a regular street!).

What altitude is that track at? I figure you should be able to pull low 13s - high 12s with traction. Your mph seems a little low. It should be closer to 104-106. When I went to the track, I was shifting slowly into fourth because of transmission problems. Even with the stock heads/cam I'm probably in the 100-101 mph range (I'm an average driver at best). Granted I'm a little lighter but you got at least 30 hp on me. What's your fuel pressure and timing set at?

Leon, I forgot to email you. Ugh, Sorry, I was hoping you would read my post in the other thread. I put all the details there, but basically...

My nitrous had complications and the car is being worked on at bottle blown racing in Camarillo. I'm having them put in a roll cage at the same time since its gonna run 11's.

Chris- Your torque boxes will be fine. I run slicks and 1.7 60's on my stock boxes. Im sure they will hold up to what your doing to them. 2.2 60' is not bad. If I were you I would skip going with drag radials, as I hear most people can hardly get a 1.9 60' out of them. May as well get an extra set of cheap rims with ET streets or ET drags on them.

You gotta play with the launch some, but theres only so much you can do with street tires.

I am definatly in to go next time guys. I worked my *** off for days to try and get there, but **** didnt work out. I also have to put on a driveshaft safety loop for running slicks.

Have to show those stupid open header 11sec cars whatsup, when I have my nice quiet little stang running low 11's. If the clutch holds..

TJR - I need to get an accurate tach and/or a shift light. I may have been shifting to high - I think around 5900-6000. Plus my shifting isn't that great anyway. I don't know what the altitude is - not that high. I'm running about 34 PSI on the 24# injectors, 16* timing.
46stang - Yeah, the red '93 GT. I wish I would have known you were going. That would have been great to hook up. Maybe next time.

Chris- Your definatly shifting too high, I gain almost 1mph and .2 when shifting at 5500rpm instead of 6000. Your powerband should be almost identical to mine. You can get low 13's out of it no problem. It will come.

A good tach would certainly help. The factory tach in my car is off by 200 rpms at idle and a lot more when I'm accelerating. I wouldn't be surprised if it's off 600-800 rpms when my shift light comes on.

withamc, your buddies T/A was the ls1 motor right! what kind of mph #'s was he putting down and et. seemed like you guys were pretty close! i saw 2 of the new corvettes run 13.9 @ 102 and 13.7x @ 103mph. they make like 320hp at the flywheel right? so we should be making close to there hp levels! with our mph so close maybe next time i'll race your buddies ls1 too, we are all pretty close, time wise

I was thinkin maybe we should head for carlbad as it will be much cooler than Bakersfield next time. Not to mention it doesnt sound like Famoso hooked up that much better. I still got 1.7 60's at Carlsbad so it can't be too bad...

What do you guys think?

46stang, the LS1 cars ( F-bods/vette) are making more like 350 horsepower at the crank. Good drivers are hitting low 13s (105-108mph) with them stock. They are also dynoing 290+ horsepower at the rear wheels. I believe the 2001 Camaros/TAs are slightly faster than the 98-2000 models due to the LS6 intake and the camshaft out of the 5.3 liter truck engine. Some have been rumored to hit high 12s stock. Of course with an average driver they probably do run high 13s at 103.

Sky- Did you get the nitrous installed yet?

The T/A is an LS1 motor with some bolt-ons. He was running 14.0's @ 101 mph. I think he, like me, was shifting too high, plus his 60' times were mostly 2.6 plus. I kept telling him he just needed to work on technique and he'd do better. But the fact that my $10,000 Mustang kept beating his $35,000 T/A probably wasn't helping matters any
I had a blast! This was my first time ever at a track - I could have kept running all night. Definitely gotta do this some more. Especially since the ticket you get at the end of the run doesn't have blue flashing lights attached to it!

From what I've been reading off the Camaro boards, the LS1s need to be shifted right before the redline/fuel cutoff.

I felt the same way when I went to the track. I would have made 30 passes if they had let me. Norwalk gets so many cars, you hardly get any passes.

thats funny, did you tell him you still have another $20,000+ to spend on your car, while he still makes payments j/k. his 60 fts were pretty bad all that chevy torque maybe? i only got 3 passes as i showed up late, but my best 60ft was a 2.21. could have been better, but it's hard not to burn out on street tires.
On a side note, i finally got my wife to race once(her first time ever), it was so funny! she raced this 10sec. monster. she ran a 14.9 @90mph, i asked her what happened and she said that the car scared her because it shoock the hell out of my car when it launched, then she didn't no where to let off the gas at the end so she ended up letting off way before the finish oh well she still liked it!
