C5, 5.0, and a 350 Hurst/Olds.....
I went out to the Gratiot cruise this evening and got some more good runs. I ran on motor all night because I am out of nitrous. Too late in the evening to get a fill-up. First race was a convertible fox GT with all the bolt ons and ported heads. I walked him hard. Not even a race after one gear. He runs 14.0's. Second was one of those Hurst Olds' that they made in the mid 80's. He had a real healthy 350, with ET Streets, a bunch of braided line coming from what used to be the gas tank... We went from a 2nd gear roll. I gave him the jump and I pulled a car on him till the top of 3rd, where he just kinda hung right by the back of my car. We ran again with the exact same outcome. A very close race. Third was a black C5 with loud exhaust for sure and I assume the other bolt on stuff as well. His was a 6-speed. We were sitting at a light and I did not expect him to run. He did not even look over. Well the light goes green and SCREECH!! He bolts! I was ready though and started a tick behind him. I ran up 1st right next to him and slammed 2nd and started inching. I shifted into 3rd with him only at my back tire!!!! By the top of 3rd I had only about a car on him too. It really sucks going out racing without a full bottle. Everyone pretty much has heads/cam/etc... or a bolt on LS1, so anyone with that stuff and a power adder would have handed me my a$$. I just got lucky and never ran into one. I kinda expected to lose my first street race in 2 years tonight, but I made it out alive!!!!! ------------------ 1988 Mustang GT 12.0 @ 122 1992 BadAzz Wrangler 1993 Explorer |

That's pretty amazing....Two years without losing (in Detroit too). Of course 122 mph traps doesn't hurt. What's your best time, all motor?

Sky, I put in a new trans 2 days after I broke it.
I don't go to real downtown street races, I just cruise the spots and get races when they come. |

exgmguy how far are you from detroit. Are you going to be up there for the woodward cruise, and is it that cool?
Sounds like some kick *** runs, sounds like you might run 12's on all motor? |

On motor I went 12.80 @ 111 on regular radials. That was the best though. I usually went 12.9-13.1 @ 110-111. I have to get to a good track with my new drag suspension and big drag radials.
I live about 10 miles north of Detroit. I have been to the Woodward cruise every year so far. Truthfully it is way to packed during the middle of the day. I covered a whopping 4 miles this year in about 4 hours. You basically sit still in traffic. Now the whole week before the cruise is awesome. Bad a$$ cars driving all over town, all night long. Plenty of races to be had. |

My motor is pretty similar to Skymans.
TFS heads (ported to 1262), GT-40 with ported lower, 24 lbers, C&L 73, E-303, 1.72's, pulleys, 3.73's, T-5, Eibach drag kit with 90/10's, etc... It makes decent power on motor but mostly runs pretty good because I lightened the car to 2750 lbs. |

For what reasons did you use an E-303? I'm thinking of using a similar combo without the port work.

Exgmguy, you didn't have any problems fitting those 1.72 rr's w/ the e303, even w/ the proted heads??? Rr's are next up on my list of to do's, and every tells me to go w/ the 1.6's.

Sorry so long to reply....
I went with the E-303 because I bought a bunch of parts for my motor as a package. I bought the heads, pushrods, rockers, and cam all together. The maximum lift recommended for TFS TW heads is .540. An E-303 is .498 with a 1.6 rocker and with the 1.72's it comes to .538 I think. If I were to do it again, I would get a custom grind and not have to worry about the added valvetrain geometry stress of the 1.72's. |
