Blown 347 bugs out.
I got a call from a guy who wanted a bigger radiator put in his 1993 Mustang GT. I went over there and did it for him. After I was done he wanted to take me for a ride down a quiet back road. He goes from a slow 1st gear roll and starts going through the gears to about 120 mph. I am sitting in the passenger seat thinking "this is a blown 347?????"
We get back and he was talking about Alternative Auto tuning it and burning a chip, etc.... It is supposed to have 480 RWHP!! Well I offered the same ride in my car. Went from the same 1st gear roll to about 100 mph. He says it feels "pretty quick" So we get back and I offer up a little drag race. We could go out to the freeway and run them where there is no traffic. He says "uhh...I dunno man, that is a pretty steep ticket, yada yada...." Mind you he just took me for a 120 mph blast down a 2 lane road! I told him i'd even run him off the bottle but he still would not bite. You guys guessin' what i'm guessin? I told him that I thought a few things were wrong with his combo. This is a 347 with a Powerdyne making 10 lbs of boost. He has an unported GT-40 intake, 24 lb injectors, and a stock mass air meter!!! Not to mention that the car was probably tuned VERY conservatively. He had to pay me to replace a stock radiator with a 3 core. No smart shop would tune a car like this anywhere near the ragged edge for a customer that has no idea what they are doing. I work for his cousin, so I will keep trying to get him to race. If I do of course I will post the results. ------------------ 1988 Mustang GT 12.0 @ 122 1992 BadAzz Wrangler 1993 Explorer |

Ok, first off...Powerdyne claims 10 psi....BS, he is prolly making 6, like I was with the 9 psi Pulley. 2ndly, 24#ers are WAYYY too lean for the 347 AND blower, and the stock MAF is killing him. My guess is that he is making MAYBE 400 rwhp. Provided that he has a stock cam and heads.

Talk about choking your car off. 24lbers with a stock mass air? Did he even recalibrate it? I wouldnt think alternative auto would even work such a crappy car up. No way it has that kind of RWHP.
Get him to race, anyway you can. I wanna see the results. I got a guy with a 97 3.8L V6 stang telling me today he had 260hp. HAHA, and he claimed it has 220hp stock. He has an F-303 cam and aluminum GT-40 heads.
He was making 10 lbs of boost too. I saw the gauge. He told me that the mass air meter and intake did not matter sice it is blown. He says the blower forces it in anyway. Also I could smell oil burning when we got back. Oil comes out of his breather and lands on his headers. I told him he has a major blow by problem. He said Lidio checked it out and everything is fine. obviously.... |

That is funny. I understand why he wouldn't race u. His car is hurting badly. He needs to take it to a real shop.

A properly setup blown 347 should make 650 RWHP. Period. Otherwise, why bother with a 347?!?! The powerdyne supercharger is not up to this task.
Like you said, he has the wrong parts. It's certainly not Lidio's fault because he has a customer's 347 running mid 9s -- exactly what a blown 347 shoud run these days. Do it right or don't do it at all. ------------------ Jeff Kane 1990 LX Mustang ex-5.0 Coupe No engine. No transmission. Prepping car for a "big" big-block. http://hometown.aol.com/red514lx/ |
