think i can beet this car??

soposed to race this car as soon as i bolt in my new rear so i can run slicks
its a 70's NOVA
built 8k rpm 350 w/ holly proinjection
powerglide with transbrake
4link suspension, big ol slicks and full cage w/ gutted interior

i ran him once when i was on a regualr tire and he gave me 1 and the brake and he cought right up to me passed me then i hooked and he didnt pull anymore..this was only about an 1/8 mile and he had a car on me..now my car is running much better and i will have slicks so i think i might be able to take him..what do ya'll think..

8k rpm chevy 350? I didn't know chevy was using Vtec now

seriously how can that motor rev up that high unless he has no torque on it...would be like a nascar type thing. I don't think that powerglide could be helping him too much. He prolly needs all 8k of those rpms just to keep up with lack of gears. I think you should be at least even with him if not in front good luck

my friend actually had a 69 nova with a 350 that revved to 8000 rpm....just matters what kinda cam thats in it. the thing was nasty, and it did sound like a nascar engine by the way.....so basically, they do exist

yea they do exist..its all about the rod ratio and keeping it fed fuel and air

I dont know why you find it so hard to believe that a 350 can rev 8000 my dads 383 stroker revs 8000 and is fast as hell

I had a friend with a 327 Chevy back in the '60's that red lined at 8000. It was built to the hilt for a street car with 2 AFB's and all the right street racing stuff. 8000 doesn't seem impossible to me.

If you came close before and are faster now, then who knows? Race his a$$ and find out who is quicker. My $.02.

Don't ever let anyone tell you an 8,000 rpm chevy won't pull hard down low. THis past May, my oldest son won a day at the Richard Petty NASCAR thing in Dallas and the car he said the thing had LOTS of low end grunt and it pretty much stayed at 7500-7800 all the way around the track. I got to go with him and believe me these things would roast the tires if you weren't real easy on the gas taking off. They would die pretty easy if you went too easy but from just off idle they were making some serious horsepower.

I have no idea whether or not you will win or whether or not his engine turns 8000 rpm. Race and find out. Also why not race for 1/4 mile? I do know one thing, plenty of small block chevy engines have been built that will turn 8000 rpm. Many will turn 10,000 rpm and even some big blocks will turn 10,000 rpm. My friend built a 482 inch big block that turns 8000 rpm in a flat bottom boat. I try to stick to the facts, i can guess if you want and say it sounds like he may have been sandbagging a bit, but he also may just have a good 1/8 mile car with real low gearing. So I advise you to run him for 1/4mile or even longer race if you can get him too.
