raced a modified T/A
i was setting at a red light the other day when I heard this mean sounding, cammed up T/A behind me reving his engine. Keep in mind that my '88GT that I recently bought is bone stock with a K&N filter.
I thought to myself..I don't stand a chance against this kid. The light turned green and it was on!! I got a car lenght on him and he stayed right there on my *** . I could not shake this kid!! At one point it looked like he was going for the pass but couldn't pull it off. I hit 4th gear and slowly pulled away around 3000 rpm. To be honest, I think the 1/4 mile was already over with by this time. If I had 3:73's and not these crappy 2:73's I would have done even better!! I figure, not bad for a fully loaded stock GT mustang considering that kid obviously had some major mods done to his car. Underdrive pullys are next!!! |

Yea, them Z-28's are fast. I could never beat them. I would do great off-line, but past 60mph, they would start pulling. Even the Auto's would pull on the upper end!
The Solution??? I just spent a gang of money on TFS heads & cam.(installed next week or so...) I also just replaces my POS AOD with a Lentech unit. This thing RULES!!! Off line, I SMOKED an RX-7 and a Z-28!!! I should be able to hold leads all the way thru with the motor mods. |

I dont mean to burst your bubble but if your car is a stock 82 which runs over 15 seconds in the 1320, and you say his was modified and you beat him c'mon man are we telling fish stories again. What year was this t/a? Even an old one that is modified would run AT LEAST low 14s which is 1 second faster than you, minimum.

Hey Rick - I think that he could find cheaper ways to piss me off than buying a TA

l98 would be a 3rd gen (87-92) depending on year and option they were rated as high as 245hp stock.
although alot of these cars had 305's. hard to tell without looking under the hood. a good 350tpi should give a stock 5.0 a good run. again nice kill ------------------ 99 30th annv. Trans am 79 Trans am black se |

I hate to say it but even a stock 305TPI car can give 5.0's a good run I have a friend with a 93 GT 13k miles! We ran it aganst two of my friends both 92 Z28, one was a auto but with K&N and Borla, the other a 5spd stone stock. And I hate to say it but both Z's are faster hell I even got pi$$ed and toke the keys to the stang and raced them and they both pull on the GT especially as the speed increases.

sedanman, The '93 GT's HP was dropped to only 205 and torque was like 285 ft/lbs
20 horsepower and 15 lbs of torque can make a difference. ------------------ '82 GT 351W,BBK shorties, Comp Cam,edelbrock intake 625 cfm carter carb. c-4 tranny w/ pro stick shifter. 4 core radiator Mallory distributor. 3:27 ......................... |

82GT,
nice kill. For some reason, Ford changed the way it rated horsepower in 93 but the engine makes exactly the same hp as the 87-92 5.0. ------------------ formerly 96cobra89lx306 (96Cobra/softtop-3.73,almdrvsht,fancontrl,steeda sbfrmes+shifter,eibachspgs,KYB's,FR-upper arms,Saleen copy-polished 18's,pulleys,Bassani X pipe(gutted),C&L 80mm Cobra DYNO 301rwhp horsepower before gutting the X pipe 93 Ford Probe Gt(slower but turns) [This message has been edited by 96SNAKE (edited 03-22-2001).] |

Definately like to know more about the TA. I realize you already said you didn't know much about them, but the L98 would be the 350 3rd gen. What did the car LOOK like?

Well, it was blue...(LOL) I don't really know the year. Just going by what I have seen in the past I do know it was in the late 80's. If I can find one on the internet I will show it to you. It did run VERY STRONG though but it was cammed and had exhaust work. I don't think anyone would go through the trouble of building a 305.
Giving credit where it is due, I must say it was a well running T/A...305 or 350 ------------------ '82 GT 351W,BBK shorties, Comp Cam,edelbrock intake 625 cfm carter carb. c-4 tranny w/ pro stick shifter. 4 core radiator Mallory distributor. 3:27 ......................... |

I sent a picture of this T/A to Hehhemule. Maybe he can explain what it looks like better than I.
It looks like that car from that old TV show "knight Driver"....KITT Remember that car? I was obviously modified because I checked that stats on these cars and they are a 305 with a 165 HP. DEFINATLY NOT STOCK!! was the car I raced. Remember, this was with my '88GT not my '82GT |

Forgive the tardiness of the reply. I didn't realize you were looking for an explanation GT. The car in question was a 3rd gen TA. Mid 80's vintage, before the "superbird" front end.

82GT--The 93's didn't have that much less power. Indeed they DO have less than your 88 and the 87's, but they ran right with the 91's and 92's....Ford just changed the rating method.
