Unhappy my first loss

Well, it happened today. My new GT saw taillights for the first time.

I was stopped at a light and there was an LT1 camaro behind me. The driver had some girls with him, and I was alone. I pulled away from the light at an average pace, and he was maybe 2-3 cars back. Then I noticed his car picking up speed fast, and he switched lanes to get next to me. I read his move, so I floored it, but he easily walked past me. I was pretty pissed, and too embarassed to talk to him at the next light, so I waved to him, and drove away. I knew lt1s had more horses, but I definitely had the weight advantage, so Im guessing he was not stock. He handled me with ease. Sorry guys. Need money for mods!!!!

If you are 5 speed, and he had that many passengers, then he was modded....pretty modded

No, mine is an auto. Would there be THAT big of a difference though???

Maybe its just the anger talking, but I really feel like, "F--- the minor bolt on's, I want a Vortech!" Gotta start saving.

What you need is a converter and some gears (and so do I) you would see a big difference

Ok, 99GT auto's run 14.5's@ around 97-99.
All the LT-1's ran about 14.0-14.2 some 13.90's...BUT with 3 passengers, he'd been lucky to run 14.7-14.8, so yes definately modded, and yes, get a converter and gears.

Thanks for the tips, guys. A friend of a friend owns a shop, and I might be able to get a good deal on a blower. Would I see high 12's, low 13's with just the blower at say, 8#'s of boost on my car? Or should I do the tranny & gears first. I have 4.10 gears at home now, but I am hesitant to put them in if Im gonna get a supercharger, cause traction would most definitely be a problem. What do you think?

If you're going to get a blower eventually, then I would stay away from the 4.10's - even with the automatic. Maybe some 3.73's.

If you're staying N/A then the 4.10's would be a good fit.

#8 of boost and you car will feel and run like night and day.

Good luck.

There's one other factor you are forgetting here. If you saw him "charging" up on you from behind, he already had a run at it, and you had to increase inertia. So, eventhough he beat you badly, he may not have beat you that badly if you guys had been side by side and nailed it at the same time. When someone already has a "running start," it's not really fair. Josh

Yeah, cuz you were trying to catch up to the speed he was going and while you were doing that he gains more speed.

Thumbs up

You have a point, quick89GT, about the inertia thing. He was probably going 65-70 when he pulled out around me, and I was going maybe 55mph when i floored it. I didnt think about that. Thanks, now I don't feel as bad. I still want that S-trim, though!

No doubt, if he had the run on you then it takes a fair bit more power to catch up. Remember a chase is a race so when someone does that to me I let them go on by and wait for them to slow down or get the run on them and let them chase.

Cool

Yeah there is no reason to feel ashamed I have a modified 67' stang I know I need big bucks to the time slips that newer 5.0's take for granted but I know I can be in the low 14's maybe high 13's with what I have but there was this one time that I cruising about 35 mph and I see a truck comming up behind me pretty damn fast so therefore I get into the racing mode and I punch it but my effort was useless on trying to catch my friend in his s-10 truck I tried for about a block and just quit later on I met him and he told me that he was going 90 mph It still didnt console me my pride was shot I couldn't belive how an s-10 could spank me so bad but now that I think of it I guess I didnt have a chance even if I was driving a corvette.
